Raise your hand if this sounds like you: You’ve got a writing project on which you’d really like to make progress, but…well, life keeps getting in the way. Also the news. Also the world? Plus, you could really use a ride-or-die support network of fellow creatives…everyone else seems to have magically conjured a writing community, but you? You’re typing alone in a room. Or thinking about typing, stealing glances at your laptop and feeling increasingly guilty about that stagnant wordcount…
Okay, if this resonates, I have been you, and I’ve got news that can help!
First, I’m hosting another three-day writing retreat in the Hudson Valley. The first few intensives were dreamy, productive successes, and I’m so excited to do it again.
The day-camp-style retreat will be November 5–8 in the Hudson Valley (90 miles northwest of NYC), and it’ll come with delicious meals, one-on-one creative consulting sessions with yours truly, stimulating activities, a supportive community of fellow writers, and uninterrupted quiet time to write. You’ll leave with your cup filled, your wordcount fattened, and your phone blowing up with new writer friends.
We’ll start each day with a craft presentation and discussion, and every attendee will get two one-on-one consulting sessions with me (worth $550 apiece), as well as a one-year paid subscription to this here newsletter. (Already a subscriber? Your comped year will kick in when it’s time to renew.)
You can find all the details at AndreaBartz.com/retreats (including a tentative itinerary, FAQ, and testimonials from earlier cohorts—not to brag, but the phrase “life-changing” came up therein), and the application is available here.
Update: Holy guacamole, the retreat has reached capacity and additional applications will be added to the waitlist. (We've had spots open up for waitlisted applicants in the past, so please go ahead and submit!) You'll also receive an email next time a Samson & Cedar retreat is announced. Thank you so much for your interest!
I am SO excited about this overseas adventure: Come write with me in a French Alpine chalet September 11–17, 2027!
I’m thrilled to partner with Foreword Retreats for an intimate, luxe, and unforgettable week of mentorship, craft, and community in Fall 2027 (yes, just over a year out). Daily three-hour seminars and workshops (covering core craft tenets and the practical elements of navigating the publishing industry), dedicated writing time, and one-on-ones will all help you unleash your creativity and get those words on the page. The retreat includes:
6 nights in an ensuite private room
Freshly prepared French meals
15 hours of workshop instruction
One-hour private critique
Scheduled dining out & activities
Local transportation
On-site concierge services
I spoke with many past instructors and attendees, as well as the founder, to ensure Foreword Retreats would be a good fit, and I’m confident it’s a perfect partner for the Get It Write community—and an investment you won’t regret. Applications are now open! Head here for more information and to apply.
I love being a writer, but I hate the solitary side of things…for me, nothing beats the joy of discussing creative projects with smart, motivated writers. If that sounds like the kind of experience you’re craving—loving attention to you and your idea; tips, tricks, and resources galore; honesty and advice that’s fully rooted in the real world; and delicious food, always—I hope you’ll invest in yourself and apply. Don’t overthink it or let Impostor Syndrome get in the way!
Any questions? Comment here or shoot me a DM! If you follow me here, you know I’m strongly anti-gatekeeping and very pro-candor—I want to share my wisdom and experiences in publishing and teach you everything I can to set you up for success. Let’s make cool shit!
