As a community, Anabel’s has worked its hardest to achieve our goals of affordability and accessibility.
Our CollabEdu Team and our Marketing Committee have centralized efforts on education about sustainable eating habits. Our social media presence has increasingly focused on ingraining healthy eating and cooking habits. Via Instagram and TikTok, we have been posting weekly cooking tutorials where we demonstrate how to create healthy meals made with Anabel’s affordable ingredients. Focusing on education and outreach through social media growth has made a substantial impact, with our Instagram viewer engagement reaching over 5,000 accounts in the past month. Student and avid Anabel’s customer Julia St. John said that these posts have “given me new, easy recipe ideas with fresh and healthy ingredients. Without these videos, I wouldn’t be inspired to cook on my own and expand my diet.” Any support provided to Anabel’s Grocery enables us as a community to increase our outreach.
As for our events, join Anabel’s on March 24th at the Alternatives Library for a chance to enjoy toast from Wide Away Bakery! This Toast-A-Thon will provide people with the opportunity to munch as well as a chance to learn about the library’s Prisoner Express program. In doing so, you will have the chance to write letters, make art, and make a difference in the lives of incarcerated people. Anabel’s aligns their projects with other community-serving organizations to better the world around us.
We are happy to say we are continuing to bring in new amazing additions to Anabel’s! Drumroll, please….
Free personal hygiene products are available right outside the store, due to our partnership with the Basic Needs Coalition 💛
With the help of our vendors like Laurie’s Grain-Free Bakehouse, we have been able to bring in more gluten-free bakery options! Inclusivity is at the forefront of our mission, which Laurie’s helps us achieve. New items include country bread, plain bagels, dark chocolate muffins, wild blueberry muffins, and pumpkin chip muffins.
We also have continued our partnership with Wide Awake Bakery, which provides us with delicious baked bread and pastries, shown below!
We have introduced more in-store samples created by our wonderful student staff. This, along with the new cooking videos provided through our social media has allowed Anabel’s to broaden its impact, and further support diverse, fresh + nutritious food to all.
We are continuously changing and broadening our produce to provide our customers with variety! Some of these include:
Frozen malawach from Lev Kitchen
Siggi’s Plant-Based Yogurts in flavors vanilla & cinnamon, peach & strawberry
New bread varieties thanks to Laurie’s Grain-Free Bread
Goshen Kimchi
Dan Dan Sauce
And of course, varied in-season local produce from our great vendors
We are actively measuring our metrics to observe the increasing presence and impact Anabel has. We were able to see a substantial increase in customer flow from our FIRST WEEK of sales this Spring compared to previous years. Each of our committees continues to plan new and innovative paths to benefit Anabel’s Grocery and our mission.
Thank you for your continued support of Anabel’s Grocery! Our amazing alumni are an essential part of Anabel’s team, allowing us to grow every semester and continue our longtime mission of providing affordable, fresh, and nutritious food. Please consider subscribing to this alumni newsletter for updates about what our team is up to, and take a step towards breaking down the systematic inequality in our food system.
