My daughter has started to ask me to buy things for her on Amazon.
Oh, how I’ve created a monster.
It was cute in the beginning. Showing her that we can find something on my phone and then having it sent to the house. Things she needs, like tap shoes for dance or a bathing suit for summer camp. Now, her imagination has run wild with it, thinking up the most exciting toy ideas and asking me to dial it on over.
“Mommy, can you get me a pink unicorn magic wand that lights up?” Um. Probably?
“Mommy, add it to your cart.” OMG have I said that phrase out loud?
First, I want to start lecturing her that we don’t just buy any and everything we want just because we ask for it. But then I remember how most of us use Amazon.
Instead of trying to lecture a 4-year-old on gratitude for the ability to buy things, I find myself saying “I’ll try.”
Let’s be honest. I didn’t try. I did it. I picked up my phone, typed it in and found it. I found a pink unicorn magic wand that lights up. The sheer success of seeing the exact thing she asked for in my search results compelled me to have it delivered to my front porch.
But even if I didn’t find it, I also didn’t “try”.
When we do something, we are not “trying”. We are doing. Period. Hard stop.
Trying doesn’t exist. There is only whether you did it or not. Effort without success is not trying. It’s un-success. You can give effort to a thing that’s undone. Or give effort to a thing that gets done.
As Yoda so famously put it: “Do or do not. There is no try.”
We should all stop trying, because it’s just a filler word we use to describe the very fact that we have no intention of seeing something through. We’re going to dabble. Dip our toe in. Take a looksie and then bail as soon as it’s hard.
It’s time to stop trying. Either do what you’re saying you’re going to do, or don’t say you’re going to do something you couldn’t care less about doing.
Stop trying. Start doing. Or stop saying yes to what you don’t intend to do.
Welcome to The ROLE Model
My framework for building a personal brand that creates opportunities, income, and influence. It guides you to Reveal Your Focus, Optimize Your Energy, Lead the Movement, and Elevate Your Impact.
R — Reveal Your Focus
You forget your wins faster than your audience does.
Open a note. Title it Brag Document.
Every kind email. Every deal closed. Every award won. Every major needle moved. Every stranger who quoted you back to yourself. Drop it in.
When the moment comes to make the case for yourself, the case is already written.
O — Optimize Your Energy
Every “maybe” is a no.
You’re just being polite about who you’re saying it to.
The person you keep “looping back to.” The project you’ve never quite committed to. The half-yes you handed your friend last month. You’ve already decided. You’re stalling so you don’t have to admit it.
The “no” you owe yourself is the most expensive one to skip.
The Inner Circle applications open shortly.
The Inner Circle is group coaching for ambitious women who are done collecting things they’re merely capable of and ready to expand their highest potential capacity. Applications open soon. Get on the waitlist to be first in.

L — Lead The Movement
Send the second message.
The first one was easy. You met at the conference. You exchanged polite DMs.
It’s time to make that card swap a connection.
The second message is the introduction. The one you send three weeks later. I keep thinking about what you said about X. Did you ever try Y?
Almost nobody sends it. They’re waiting for the other person to remember them first.
Don’t wait. Be remembered on purpose.
E — Elevate Your Impact
The “I’ll try” audit.
What have you been “trying” to do that you’ve actually decided not to do?
Start it, or take it off the list. Both feel better than limbo.
Go after the life you want!
Amy
My Conversation on CallHerCreator
Bailing On The Career You Thought You Needed
What if the thing you’re most qualified for isn’t the thing you’re meant for? I left corporate law to build a personal brand on YouTube, and on this episode of Call Her Creator, Katelyn and I unpack the question that drove the pivot. We get into the mindset shifts, the systems, and the daily decisions that built a real business around the work I was wired for, not the one my degree said I should be in. If you’ve ever wondered whether the credential you’ve been collecting is the cage you’re stuck in, this one’s for you.
