Soul of a Champion: The Gil Hodges Story
With the Dodgers winning the World Series last week, I was reminded of this documentary on Dodgers legend Gil Hodges, a stellar player and coach who led them to World Series triumphs back in the day, but was also a devout Catholic.
Fun fact: I helped Spirit Juice to promote this documentary when it came out in 2021 and mounted a small campaign to promote Hodges’ long overdue induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was inducted by the Legends Committee a few months later. I won’t say I’m partially responsible for that, but I’ll certainly assume it.

National Eucharistic Revival
Ever since the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis in July, an incredible thing has been happening. The organizers of the congress have continued to put out stellar content that reinforces the message of the gathering and encourages people to continue growing in their devotion to the Eucharist and invite others into a similar relationship.
Most impressively, they are providing something the Church doesn’t frequently offer when it tells you to get out there and proclaim Christ to the world: concrete steps. This playbook is filled with practical tips and ideas for increasing your own faith life and for evangelizing in your family, parish, and community. It’s worth joining the Congress email list to get their regular weekly updates as well. So much good stuff is being shared.

Song of the Week
My brother sent me this song a couple weeks ago and said that it reminds him of me and my wife. That’s high praise, and it made this song an instant tearjerker whenever I hear it…which, lately, has been often.
Whenever we try to help and care for another person, Jesus is at our side. We should never forget that, when he sent his disciples on mission, “the Lord worked with them” (Mk 16:20). He is always there, always at work, sharing our efforts to do good. In a mysterious way, his love becomes present through our service.
