We’re delighted to share a guest photo essay by a talented photographer Eric Hsu.
But first a quick update: we have an event this Thursday evening, May 28th with the Plain Law Movement (法律白話文運動) and Khí-Sū Culture Publishing Ltd. (挑興文化). We’re honored to be in conversation with director Hsu Ming-chun, discussing his beautiful documentary Memories Frozen in Time. It retraces the forgotten journey of Taiwanese soldiers conscripted by Japan, captured by the Soviets, and exiled to Siberia. It’s a hybrid event in English at 7 P.M. at Citizen Bookstore! Link here. Hope to see you there.
Our social media feed is probably 80 percent about Taiwan Travelogue winning the International Booker Prize 2026. We’re so proud! This is the first time any Mandarin language book has won the Booker, and the first time Taiwan has won. More below. Congrats Yáng and Lin!
