At the Amela Frequency 📡, every Monday, we reflect on tech news, share thoughts from our network ✍️, and hand you tools and frameworks for early-stage builders ⚒️. If you’re building (or dreaming about it), you’re in the right place.
Hi Amelxs👋
I spent a good chunk of June talking about fundraising with several people across several ecosystems. Whether it was last Monday with H&M ventures in our dream event about consumer investing, a few weeks back in NYC Tech Week or last tuesday at the EWOR scout day.
A lot of different rooms, a lot of different perspectives on where capital is moving right now. And now that I have time to reflect and gather, I want to specifically call out something I see more often than I wish:
Founders pitching everyone, and wondering why it isn’t working.
I get it. Fundraising feels urgent. It feels like a numbers game. Like if you just get in front of enough people, someone will say yes.
But that’s not how it works.
Before you pitch anyone, you need to understand what type of fund you’re talking to. What stage they invest at. What founders they typically back. What their risk appetite looks like. How they actually make decisions internally.
Pitching without that work done first is not hustle, but noise. And it costs you something you can’t get back: time, energy, and the reputation that comes with being in the wrong room.
I watched a founder go through this recently. She had to figure all of this out mid-process, while she was already fundraising. Profiling investors, understanding what they were looking for, learning the dynamics in real time. It was hard. It didn’t have to be that hard.
The other thing I keep noticing: the market is shifting.
A few months ago everything felt uncertain. Nobody really knew what was going to stand, what was going to fail, what AI was going to absorb. Investors were cautious.
Now the dust is starting to settle. I’m seeing more willingness to deploy capital again, especially toward things investors are starting to actually understand. We’re moving past the panic that Claude will kill every company. What’s emerging instead is something more grounded: AI being used for real reasons, by companies building real things.
That’s actually a good moment to be fundraising, if you know how to navigate it.
Which is why I’m bringing back the Amela fundraising bootcamp.
I haven’t run it in about a year. But I keep seeing the same gaps, and I want to help close them. Not just tactics, but the actual system behind fundraising: how investors think, what they’re really looking for, what your actual chances are, and how to decide if venture capital is even the right path for you.
With that in mind, let’s go on to this week’s newsletter
hugs,
Every week we are sharing the stories of amazing Amela Mentors changing the world an Patrick J Font is definitely one to watch out!
Most people with a startup idea don’t have a building problem: they have a clarity and momentum problem. Zero to Builder is a 4-week cohort that takes you from stalled idea to validated concept and working prototype, using AI tools. No code required, 1:1 support included.
Most founders start fundraising with a deck and a list of investors. That's not a strategy. This live cohort: built by a VC and shaped by 240+ founders, gives you the system behind the raise: how investors actually think, how to build momentum, and how to close. Participants raised $8M+ in the last 12 months. Early bird seats are limited!
💸 Fundraising in the Age of AI: What’s Changing and What Still Matters
AI is changing how founders pitch and reach investors: but most fundraising advice hasn’t caught up. Anaís Cisneros, former VC at EWOR, Rally Cap Ventures, and Samos Investments, breaks down what’s actually shifting and what still determines whether investors say yes. Free webinar.
