At the Amela Frequency 📡, every Monday, we reflect on tech news, share thoughts from our network ✍️, and hand you tools and frameworks for early-stage builders ⚒️. If you’re building (or dreaming about it), you’re in the right place.

Hi Amelxs👋

This week I found myself repeating a phrase I grew up hearing in Peru: “No dejes que la vida te viva. Vive la vida.” (Don’t let life live you. Live life.)

Te he fallado Susy Díaz 😟
This is the meme I remember every time I catch myself letting be overriden by life.

It’s a line popularized by Susy Díaz , a popular philosopher of peruvian folklore, but one that somehow gets it right.

The more I repeated it this week, the more I realized how relevant this phrase is.

As usual a portion of my week went to speak to aspiring entrpreneurs and there’s a pattern I can’t ignore. Often they come with many questions about hypothetical futures: what if this fails, what if I lose stability, what if I make the wrong decision.

They’re trying to solve problems that don’t exist yet.

And in the meantime, they’re not doing the one thing that would actually move them forward: trying things out.

The irony is that many of these people are incredibly capable: smart, thoughtful, high-achieving. But that same intelligence becomes a trap. They simulate every possible downside before even taking the first step.

I see a similar pattern with founders too. There’s this tendency to want to get it right, to optimize decisions, to wait for clarity. But entrepreneurship doesn’t really work like that. At some point, it becomes much simpler: you try things. Some work, most don’t, and you adjust.

I remember my mother, a serial entrepreneur, once told me:

You can’t be an entrepreneur and be scared.

At the time it sounded extreme. Now it feels obvious.

Because if you’re constantly optimizing for the best possible outcome, you end up not playing at all.

And this is where that phrase keeps coming back. Don’t let life pass you by.

In practice, I think it’s less about taking reckless risks and more about this: stop overthinking futures that haven’t happened, and start acting in the present you actually have.

Especially now. With how fast things are moving — AI, markets, opportunities — standing still is often the bigger risk.

At Amela, I actually see many of you doing the opposite. Taking calculated bets on yourselves, trying things, moving forward even when it’s messy. Not waiting to feel ready.

And that’s the difference between observing life… and actually living it.

So I’ll leave you with this:

Where in your life are you overthinking, instead of just trying?

Now, let’s get into this week’s newsletter ✉️

hugs,

Anais
