Isaak lay face down on his bedroom floor, bloodied and bruised. Eva hurried to his side. “Isaak,” she said, gently touching his arm, hoping he would stir. “Isaak, can you hear me?”
She rested her hand on his back. She could feel him breathing, which was a good sign. What terrified her, though, was that his shirtless back was covered in blood—so much blood.
“Isaak, talk to me, please.”
He stirred and let out a soft groan. “Eva?” His eyelashes fluttered, and he turned his head slightly to peek at Eva through heavy eyelids.
