A conversation I hear more and more often from women in their 40s and 50s goes something like this:
“I’m eating the same way I always have… but my body feels different.”
“My energy isn’t as steady.”
“I’m hungrier at strange times.”
“The things that used to work just… don’t seem to anymore.”
For a long time, the response women heard was frustratingly simple…and still didn’t work:
“Just eat less.”
“Exercise more.”
But many women are starting to ask a better question:
What if something deeper is changing?
During perimenopause and menopause, the conversation often focuses on hormones like estrogen and progesterone. But there are other hormones that influence how our bodies use and manage energy (and stress) every day.
Two important ones are insulin and cortisol.
Insulin helps move glucose from the bloodstream into our cells so it can be used for energy.
Cortisol helps release stored energy when the body needs it, especially during stress.
When these hormones are working in balance, the body regulates energy efficiently. But during midlife - when estrogen levels begin to shift - the way our bodies handle blood sugar and stress can change too.
This can show up in some familiar ways…
Energy that feels less stable throughout the day
Stronger cravings for quick-energy foods
Changes in body composition
Feeling hungrier even when eating similar meals
These experiences are common - but they’re not always explained very well.
That’s why I’m excited to be part of an upcoming (free) live event:
Midlife Clarity: Metabolism, Muscle, and Mindset in Perimenopause & Menopause
I’m teaming up with Kenzie Osborne, Jami Fassett, and Suzie Geria on March 14 from 11 am – 1 pm EDT for this 2-hour live event, which includes…
