Man we talk a lot about all of the healing that we do.
The tips and tricks, how to unlearn, educate ourselves on our traumas and relearn new methods, thought processes and belief systems.
But what happens when you are doing the work and life throws a curve ball at you?
When using your tools isn’t working?
What then?
The healing journey is cyclical and common themes will continue to reappear.
Sometimes that means we haven’t seen the opportunity for growth, the lesson, or perhaps we see it buuuut we’re not ready to walk the walk just yet. I find more often than not when I AM practicing and integrating the teachings, at times it comes easier and tend to get really frustrated when she doesn’t flow.
‘I’ve come soooo far, I’ve done soooo well, WTF is happening right now!?’
A challenge to practise the lesson in a bigger way, with a capacity that has expanded, with spiritually jacked emotional muscle. When we plateau at the gym we don’t stop there, we change the workout, the movements, we add extra plates.
Same same here too.
Heavier lifting equals bigger gains.
The lesson here is to REMIND yourself that every cycle of this particular lesson, you passed, that’s why you’re advancing up a level.
Does it get harder?
Yup!
Will you be challenged?
Yup!
Will you be rewarded?
Fuck yes!
So deep breaths, this cycle might be tricker than the last, but that’s only because you killed it before, and you will this time too!
Listen heavy, lift heavy, and you’ll be well rewarded.
Body vs. Mind when activated.
Most people try to calm their mind when they’re anxious, but calming the body is the fastest way to calm the nervous system. Do that and the mind will follow.
How can we quickly calm the body when we are activated and triggered?
Breath work.
Breath work offers a means to move energy, tension, anxiety through the body. But first we need to lean into the tension. Our bodies are sending a signal of a need, a cycle that needs completion. Lean into the tension, into the body, and the muscle, the tissue, exist in that space of discomfort first.
When offering a service I like to call Metal Massage (you read that right!) we do a lot of work through resistance and muscle exhaustion to get deeper. Fast breath work takes us deeper into the tissue, further the into release, massages the organs and muscles and works from the inside so that we may complete the cycle on the outside.
The next time your anxiety peaks, simplify the solution.
Note where the tension is, ask your body what it needs.
Give in.
Complete that cycle.
Slow deep breaths in, and exhale knowing you have the tools to soothe already at your disposal.
