Tariffs have hit me. my suppliers of evazote foam and aluminum G hook buckles will no longer ship to the US. I had been buying these items at retail in europe and shipping them over. I refuse to use lower quality components, foam in particular, I am now ordering from the respective factories directly. This means I am offering the Aluminum G hook buckles and Evazote EVA foam sheets for sale to anyone and discounts for larger quantities for other makers.
understand offering these items is not a source of income. It’s a break even service.
G Hook buckles: i have 3/4”, 20mm & 1”, 25mm. both in black. the 20mm size i have left and right handed. they are curved so you need equal numbers of both for side compression straps. in the 25mm size I am just ordereding left, as i use these on the expedition duffles and classic pack lids. these are available in 6 weeks. The manufacturer, offers lots of different aluminum buckles, so if there is something you want, let me know. They do not have a US distributor.
Evazote Foam: best closed cell foam in the world for shoulder straps and waist belts. originally developed by Karrimor for sleeping pads and backpads. I have 40 year old samples in the shop that are still good enough to use. originally made in the UK by Zotefoams. I am having mine blown and sliced here in the US. I know Nanatak sells this too, but their prices are really high. 30-35% higher than I feel comfortable selling foam to others for. I want other mankers to use this foam as it is better than what you can buy elsewhere. 3-4 weeks till I have this in stock to ship. stocking 10mm 3/8” and 13mm 1/2” foam sheets . 40” x 80” or half sheets 20” x 80”.
If you need something please preorder as that will help decide the opening orders. Buckles are set at 1000 buckles per color,size,L or R. starting with black but there are as many anodized colors available, I just have to buy 1000 of each. so if you need 200 red 20mm buckles I’d be willing to bring them in. if you need 10, then it will be awhile.
Material orders will be filled one day 1 day a week.
Higgs Boson ski pack preorder is happening right now. closing next week for the fall batch. this year I switched back to the outer zippered pocket and added a inside shovel blade sleeve. I also added black Ultra TX to the color mix.
In other news I just returned from a trip to NYC. I visited with Amundsens Sports and we maybe doing a alpine luddites winter pop up shop in their store in December, but no final details just yet. While I am a supporter of US made goods, they are Norwegian based and making their clothing in Europe. Along with Ortovox,the Hilleberg of outdoor clothing, but with a bend to natural fibers including ventile canvas, wool insulation and classic telemark skiing styles. I live in their shorts.
I also visited with Andrew at NYCvelo, both a customer and friend. I just learned he is now a principal in the bike clothing brand Search & State, all made in the NYC garment district. I had built a dozen custom fanny packs as prizes for their Fire Tower Brevet last year. they are right around the corner from where CBGB‘s used to be. Andrew sells frames from Pegoretti, who’s brand was an early inspiration to me.
