I was furiously packing for a week in South Florida and had four thousand errands and Work Things to do before leaving town, so trying on anything with “tropical wool” in the name was the last thing I needed to be doing last week. But when my local boutique gets a new shipment of Tibi, I can’t help myself. I must try it all on before everything is snapped up by our little Tibi fan club here in the Washington area. If you are local, please go see the lovely ladies at Alas Eius in Georgetown. The boutique is filled with special brands and their own house label. Just leave some Tibi for the rest of us, please and thank you.
Tropical Wool Charles Trouser and Skinlike Mercerized Wool Soft Sheer Polo
Style class hooked me on these Ring Three and Four blue tones for fall. This polo in Blue Fog (the darker blue color) has been at the top of my list along with these trousers (btw, isn’t trousers a much more satisfying word than pants?) which I didn’t realize were a new style. I’m trying both in a size small here. The hell of it is that I did not like the polo as much as I thought I would. I wanted it to look like it looks on Amy (below) which I think might have been able to be achieved if 1) I had a different body or 2) I sized up. Also, it didn’t seem very “sheer” fyi.
I didn’t bother to try another size because I also didn’t like the fabric. Womp, womp. I am super sensitive to anything in the wool family so this is likely a me problem. Give me cotton, give me cashmere, give me synthetic, but only occasionally wool (Tibi’s “tropical wool” for example, is just fine). Such a bummer. THE PANTS on the other hand. Loved these! Amy says these are the Scottie pants without the pintucked stripe. I love that the elastic waist with belt loops, the crazy pocket placement and (of course!) the adjustable length. Speaking of which, did I miss the memo that we have transitioned from snaps to buttons? Have we been buttoning for a minute now and I missed it? At 5′4″, I am always inclined to take the shorter length when Tibi offers it, but the buttoned up longer length is tempting. I wish the store had the shorter length to compare. For what it’s worth, the store told me that they feel the shorter length never looks right.
Filing that away.
In the above photo, I hadn’t snapped up the pants hem; below I’ve adjusted them to the second shortest setting. Cute cute cute and the color is a dream! In navy pants, I am a librarian. In the Blue Fog Charles Trouser, I am ordering chablis next to Bradley Cooper.
Did I ever tell Bradley Cooper was in my class at Georgetown? A story for another day.
Active Knit Winslow Pants and Active Knit Easy Shirt
Ah, the active knit Winslows paired with the Active Knit Easy Shirt. This color is Brown but to me, they read as a very Ring Three brown with kind of a purple tone, which is lovely. Before adjusting the length above and in the second shortest setting below. The active knit fabric is work appropriate for me and I do not believe there’s any chance of mistaking these pants for athletic wear so that’s a major win. I couldn’t help but wonder if they might be almost be too “dressy?” for how I want to wear them?
No, definitely not.
After briefly considering whether I should order the shorter length to try, I bought these - hooray! I did not love the matching top (above) and I’m not sure why. I’m wearing a small in the pants and the top and between the oversizedness of the top and the “heavier” fabric, it just felt like something I wouldn’t wear.
Ohhhhhhhh so pretty! This color is everything and I liked the crinkle fabric more than I thought I would. I’ve tried on the slip camis and found them quite oversized, but this style is different. I’m in the 4 (the only size they had) and it is too small under the armpits. 6 probably would do it, but maybe even an 8. If the store had had a bigger size, I would have bought this and probably worn it out of the store with my beloved pinched pleat shorts.
Sale Pinched Pleat Dress
Gah I still love this! I held myself back from buying it in the sale because how many pinched pleat items does one person need (rhetorical question obvi), but geez, I do love it and wish I was wearing this to the wedding I am attending on Friday! Maybe I’ll pick it up on resale down the line. I’m in the 6 above.
Not Tibi - just trying on some genie style pants for the millionth time. For the millionth time, I don’t like them on me.
Thrifted Adidas tee + authentic 1970s heat-transfer decal (!!!!), sourced and applied by me 💯 💪🏻
old Old Navy Dress, alt
Tibi shirred back tee + Tibi shorts
Thrifted cotton Lacoste sweater, here’s one on Poshmark, also love this one (new).
4:30 am airport Bathroom Selfie - Free People pants and Beryen slides (old and old) + graphic tee made by me. Bonus points if you know what band this is.
Steven and I are visiting mom in my hometown, Delray Beach. This calls for a Julia Amory husband shirt - mine is old, here is one from this season
Apiece Apart trail shorts - old, here is this season’s version. I love these shorts!
Tory slides
Vintage LL Bean tote with someone else’s monogram (mine says Angus, and I love imagining who Angus was/is. A dog? A husband? A little boy?). I am of the belief that wearing an LL Bean tote with my own name on it is meh, but with someone else’s, I am a woman of mystery. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. xx - Angus.
Working remotely in my mom’s sunhat + my beloved Left on Friday rash guard. Please bury me in this if it happens to be sunny on the day of my funeral.
We forgot our cooler so Steve’s fishing bucket is holding our drinks and food at the pool. This would be disgusting if it weren’t for the fact that he has never caught a fish in the state of Florida. Much like I have an extensive pilates wardrobe but little to no actual pilates experience to show for it, Steven has thousands of dollars in fishing equipment and I’ll let you guess the rest. Whatever, as long as we have something to hold the champagne and pimento cheese.
Daughter Two was five days back from her summer study in abroad in London when she emerged from her bedroom with so many ailments it was hard to keep up.
“My stomach has been really bad for days, I think I have that parasite thing.”
“I have this pain way back in my mouth, I think my wisdom teeth are coming in.”
“My face is breaking out, like cystically.”
“Can you book a massage for me, to like, help me deal with all of this?”
Meanwhile here in Florida, mom loves to send me for takeout. Make her breakfast and she wants a bagel ten minutes later, but not a bagel made in her kitchen. A takeout bagel.
“I’m not sure if the cream cheese in the fridge is still good.”
Then, then! She doesn’t want to go out to lunch, but she wants me to go and get her a mahi sandwich from her favorite restaurant. It’s hard to hear all of her orders over the television with the volume turned up as loud as it will possibly go. She doesn’t want to miss a minute of QVC. If I conspire with her home health aide for even five minutes in another part of the house, she is frantic.
“what are you talking about in there?”
GOOD GOD.
Here is my Curves bag, accessorized with my beloved Jimmy Carter inauguration day pin. I was feeling good about the bling until Daughter Three said, “OH MY GOD WHY IS TRUMP ON YOUR BAG?” Now I can’t unsee it.
No Style Class recap this week, but can we talk about these jeans. OMG!!!!!!!
Charlotte’s Saie bronzer
The Ordinary hyaluronic acid: I use this too - it is one of my skincare staples and under $10. Love the price and easy hydration. YES.
Vintage Disney tee: here’s one on Etsy for a great price!
Brooke Callahan skirt
Coleman Compound: I am now several weeks in and my skin seems more even. At least I think it is - knowing me, it could absolutely be placebo effect. It will take more time to know for sure and I will report back. Mrs. Derm continues to be one of my favorite follows. She is sassy, smart, and I don’t feel like she is constantly trying to sell me something.
Crown Affair Dry Shampoo, Air Dry Cream
Innis face wash - my tried and true for a squeaky clean face (but it’s not drying)
(Gifted) SOSHE blush and brush - still testing, will report back
Thank you so much for being here and reading. I hate that fall (the season) is upon us, but the clothes are fun ❤️
As a special treat, Rachel and I will be in your inbox soon breaking down this week’s Style Class.
