Hello, hello! Settle in, I have some seriously packed reporting for you this week. We have new items to take in via Style Class, personality types to unpack, J.Crew dresses to consider, and some cutie summer t-shirts that arrived in the mail. What more could you want in a newsletter?
What have the Tibi creatives cooked up for us today? Our ladies love a theme and today they are talking about style through the lens of personality archetypes, which is a new one for me. I love a personality framework because it usually involves a Seventeen magazine style quiz and then you get to read all about yourself and feel completely understood. Then you start reading your results out loud to anyone who will listen, like, can you believe how accurate this is???!!! For anyone keeping track at home, my Myers Briggs type is INFP, which makes up only 4% of the total population because, obviously.
It is explained that today’s class will break down four roles; Analyst, Diplomat, Sentinel, and Explorer. I have no idea what kind of person is a Sentinel but right off the bat I know I’m not that. It sounds like the name of a newspaper. Analyst sounds like a boring federal employee who wears glasses, and not the stylish kind. She gets up early and reads the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal while I’m lying in bed in my LED mask listening to Lena Dunham read to me. Diplomats and Explorers are obviously the fun ones.
Right off the bat: Amy in all black. She looks cool, right? Chic. I’ve heard Anna Wintour say that wearing all black is the most boring thing a person can do, and I think about this every single time I do that very thing, but Amy is proving Anna wrong. Boom.
Meanwhile Keturah is here wearing the best of Tibi’s current shoe collection IMO - the Gerard Embroidered sandal. Can we talk about Amy’s black jeans for a minute? A narrower leg, cuffed at the ankle, interesting. I’m not sure if I’m personally ready for narrower jeans but my eye is beginning to adjust and here we are.
2:38 Amy reveals she is an Analyst. Yep, no surprise there.
3:33 Keturah on Diplomats….people seeking meaning, identity, emotional connection. This sounds like moi but I also identify with being (seriously) introverted and with the concept of wanting to understand both sides of an argument that Amy talked about when she described the Analyst. And then the part about being highly creative and struggling with deadlines makes me think I’m for sure an Explorer. And finally, the Sentinels - you know who you are - are all about structure, rules, order. They probably don’t lose their Apple Watches and AirPods in the same week. (I cannot find either one at the moment.)
11:35 Amy says the whole point is that it’s not just about a pair of black jeans. We have to think about what the black jean is doing for the outfit and how we want to feel in our clothes. And this, readers, is why Style Class and Amy remain undefeated. Nobody else out there is weaving Carl Jung into a discussion about denim.
14:37 Stella identifies as an Analyst and she is wearing black and brown - always a winning Tibi color combo. She looks so sophisticated! I have tried the Open Back Top she is wearing and covered my try-on in an older post. It is beautiful, sculptural, interesting, cool. I am just too shy to show so much of my back.
15:35 But wait! Keturah unhooks the back of the aforementioned top so it can be worn open and suddenly I’m reconsidering everything. Could I wear it like this with a bandeau or tank underneath?
16:31 Amy appears in my beloved overalls/jumpsuit situation and I must once again evangelize about these. GET THEM. I have worn them approximately one million times.
16:35 We are introduced to Cass, a makeup artist from Bobbi Brown and I am rapt. We almost never get makeup content in Style Class. Do the Tibi ladies even wear makeup???? Amy herself always looks incredibly polished but in a very “no makeup makeup” kind of way. I’ve always suspected that she just wakes up for the day looking expensive.
24:17 Cass has a hot take - always carry red lipstick in your bag. Hmmm. This would imply that one is able to apply lipstick in an off the cuff way, which is a move that eludes me. I have never casually applied a red lip in my life. If I wear red lipstick, it’s a full scale operation conducted under very bright vanity mirror lighting. There are Q-tips, makeup remover, lip liner, and a You Tube tutorial involved.
25:22 Cass puts Amy in a red lip and Amy is completely freaking out over it while at home we can barely see it.
27:45 Meanwhile Keturah applies red lipstick without a mirror like an absolute boss! Some women are just operating on more levels than the rest of us.
29:48 Sidebar - I’m noticing that Amy has layered the Summer Slip Cami under the jumpsuit and for whatever reason this never occurred to me. Note to self.
35:28 This outfit on Camila. My God. I can’t help but wonder if I can pull this off????
36:20 Meanwhile Amy adds the Twill Bomber to the blue skirt and top and suddenly the whole thing clicks. Before the jacket, the blue set was veering slightly toward high school prom for me. The brown toughens it up.
46:47 I LOVE the striped sweater with the Calcimin Jeans. I also adore Keturah’s reference to “living in a state of whimsy.” Yes, please.
48:35 Leather top. Fabulous.
56:00 This leather dress with the flip flops??? This is everything. And a good reminder about the power of minimalist dressing.
Final thoughts: I really enjoyed this episode!
Episode MVP - Keturah, for the Red Lipstick application flex.
Outfit MVP - Camila in the skort, sheer top, flip-flop situation.
Hot Take - I will shop my closet for brown and periwinkle blue.
No gatekeeping - let’s chat about our wishlists!
I have my ear to the ground and the Tibi Friends are whispering that The Sale is launching any minute now. I have no idea whether this is true and even less of a grasp on what merchandise will be on sale but l’ve been trained in the art of gossip and I am therefore adept at spreading rumors.
Those who are more in the know than me believe that items from the Spring collection as well as Resort will be in the sale. In the past, the sale launched in early June but there is a thought that it will launch any. day. now.
As such, if you have not already done so, I recommend saving a Wish List on the Tibi site in your sizes so that when the sale launches, you are ready to go. I have twenty now whittled down to a lean 19 (!!!!!!!!) items on My Wishlist.
If I had to whittle the list down….
Speaking of wearing fewer dresses, I find myself more interested in the adventure of building outfits around separates these days, but there is a part of me that pines for a Charlotte York Goldenblatt look when the temperatures start to rise.
I was browsing J.Crew’s sale of the moment (50% off all dresses) and these three prepster looks caught my eye…
I’ll never be hired by Anna Wintour bc I really like to wear all black.
Tibi Tech Crush Wrap Dress - on sale, still some sizes left.
The Roger belt, made famous by Ms. Carrie Bradshaw, who wore it over and over again.
Old Navy Bow Flats (old), here’s a pair (size 8) on Poshmark.
Skims Bodysuit - size up.
The red skirt = my first ever Tibi purchase
James Perse Panel shirt via consignment shop - here is a new one.
Tibi Nylon Pull on Full Skirt - sold out
Mansur Gavriel Square Toe flat - mostly sold out - a few left here.
I’ve been shopping for baseball/raglan t-shirts and I opened a few with Daughter Two. Items are from Zara and Cou Cou Intimates ❤️
The Arrivals:
Zara Pink and White Tee Update: Love! Size is perfect, not as sheer as I thought, really nice. Keeping.
Zara Black and White Tee Update: Definitely a heavier fabric. Not exactly cropped, but has a cute rounded hem that I didn’t notice until trying on. Keeping.
Zara Red and White Tee Update: Need a size small so probably returning. Also, I do not need three baseball tees.
Cou Cou Tee Update: Divine. Size is perfect. The softest cotton - like a Petit Bateau Tee. Keeping, obvi.
Will you be participating in the Tibi sale or are you shopped out? I know that the Spring collection wasn’t as popular for many of us and there seems to be quite a bit of inventory still left for many of my wish list items, but I thought it was a strong collection. If you have questions about anything that I may have seen in person or tried on, lmk. I love to chat Tibi! Anyway, thanks for being here and welcome to the new subscribers. I am so grateful for you!
