NINE Tibi Summer Try-Ons

As has been relentlessly documented, I will go waaaaaaay out of my way to try on some Tibi. I cannot allow myself to become trapped in the order/return cycle of online shopping because I have no self control and will find a way to rationalize keeping everything. Also, I am lazy and therefore terrible at returns. Plus the sizing of it all. Amy is so certain in her “I always wear a 4, a small, and a 27 (?),” but I’m all over the place in Tibi sizing. Since I buy most of my Tibi pieces on final sale or resale, I need to be decently confident that it will fit. And so! If I find myself within twenty miles of a Tibi stockist, I’m on the case. Although these newsletters would suggest otherwise, I don’t love publishing pictures of myself trying on clothing (I would rather just yap about what I like), but I find this kind of content/photo evidence incredibly helpful when I am on the receiving end and so, readers, I do this for you ❤️ Also I have no idea why I feel the need to provide this disclaimer but I am not on a glamorous Hawaii vacation. I am a tag along on my husband’s work trip. And the only reason I can tag along is that I have a school job and have just started summer break. I have asked myself why I feel the need to point this out and I am frankly ashamed to admit that I am not generally happy to read other people’s vacation content. I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me.

Back home at The Hive, I finally had the chance to try and buy the:

While perhaps not the most flattering skirt I’ve ever worn (and man do I loathe the word “flattering” - it’s too close to “fattening” - another awful word), the 70’s print speaks to 1975 soul. I think the wallpaper in the laundry closet of my childhood home was a similar print. Chic AF.

I wear a 4 in Tibi trouser skirts and a 6 in most other Tibi bottoms, and I’m in the 6 here. I’ve only worn it once so far and it seems to have stretched, so I probably would have been okay in the 4. I am very sensitive/insecure about anything hugging my midsection too tightly and so here we are. LOVE! I will style it with a much more interesting top in real life.

Well. First things first. If I were to purchase the skort it would not be in white. For me, the white is giving Country Club/Tennis and that vibe gives me hives.

Hee hee see what I mean 😂

Sorry - back to business. The skort is small and it is short and I am trying on an 8 above and that is the size I would buy. I would consider it in red and would maybe (???) think about the dress version if it makes it to sale. I don’t have the vocabulary to write eloquently about the fabric except to say it feels elevated and luxurious. My association with the tennis skirt is based on the fact that it’s a skort and it’s white, but the fabric does not remotely read as sporty. I’m trying two new to me Tibi tops in the skort photos.

This is really pretty and silky feeling. It’s been on my list in the brown which is now mostly sold out. There are still a bunch left in white. I think Amy said to consider sizing up in this one but I’m trying on a small here and it’s the right size - plenty roomy.

Here’s an additional photo to show the cutouts

This one is not for me. The only size available to try was the XS and it was way too small, though I don’t think I would have been comfortable in a larger size either. Just too much skin showing for me and oddly long for my torso. I would want to have it shortened. I much prefer this Tibi racerbak tank (on sale), which I have from last season. I did have to have it altered though - the neckline came to my navel.

Onto the We are Iconic try-ons….

This small Honolulu boutique had an extensive Tibi collection! I tried on as much as I could without being obnoxious.

Hey now! This was the sleeper hit! I am not usually a fan of wrap skirts. My waist is my largest measurement and I usually have to size waaaaay up to make them work. I’m in a size 2 here (all they had) and I suspect I would be okay in either a 4 or 6, but would not have guessed that this is such an easy fit. The top is also a 2 and I would take a 4 or 6, but sheesh the fabric is so soft and silky and I loved how I felt in it. Tibi calls this color “Faded Red,” but there is nothing faded about it. To me this is the standard Tibi orangey/red that I know and love. Gosh, so lovely!

Another surprise winner! Again in a too small Size 2. In this size I can’t quite wrap it around properly to get the chest coverage I want, but I think that would be fixed in my correct size. LOVE! I think I like the two piece set better but this is a Very Good Summer Dress.

I knew I would love this and sure enough, cuteness abounds. I always think I like gingham and then I don’t wear it. I WOULD WEAR THIS. I’m in a medium which is a smidge big but I don’t mind it. Not sure if the small would be too small. In styles like this from Tibi, I’m often right in between so I get the larger size and have it tailored.

I have been really curious about this dress and I was a bit disappointed IRL. It was just okay. I prefer so many of the other pleated items from the spring so this one will be a pass for me. That said, it’s very pretty - just too similar to other things I own or plan to stalk until I own them.

OMG full body NO. I’ll blame my short legs, not the pants, but these are not for me. These are medium, regular length. It’s possible the small would be better but really they just aren’t for me.

Thoughts, questions, may I get you a cocktail? How is everyone doing with the Sale and the Summer and the Coming Soon?

Excuse me, now I’m off to glare at small children by the pool, slather on sunscreen like a lunatic, try not to get my hair wet, read library books, and wait ten hours for the hubs to come home from work. In case you’re curious (because I always am) -

Currently reading (divine):

My face and body sunscreen (I’ve tried them all, these are my current favs)

Thanks so much for reading!
