🌍 Urbanists on the Ground: bike rides, resilience festivals, and biobased futures

This edition is very much about urbanism experienced collectively and in person.

Across Istanbul, Barcelona, and Berlin, members of the All Things Urban community are coming together through bike rides, architecture tours, resilience gatherings, workshops, and informal conversations rooted in the places themselves.

More and more, our local chapters are becoming spaces not only for networking, but for collectively reading cities together. Testing ideas on the ground. Learning through movement, discussion, and shared experience.

This is also what makes these gatherings special. They create room for urbanists from different backgrounds to meet outside formal institutional settings and exchange perspectives in a more direct and grounded way.

From coastal transformation and everyday mobility to climate resilience and timber architecture, our upcoming events all explore different ways of understanding how cities are shaped, experienced, and imagined.

We’re continuing to build more of that across the community. If you’d like to get involved locally or be part of upcoming initiatives, you can fill in the interest form and we’ll follow up with next steps soon.

🚲 IN-PERSON EVENT: Urban.koop x All Things Urban – Heritage Bike Tour Along Kadıköy’s Coastline

📍Istanbul 📅 Saturday, May 16 🕔 2:00 - 6:00 PM GMT+3

Join the All Things Urban Istanbul Chapter and Urban.koop for a slow-paced heritage bike tour along one of Istanbul’s most beloved coastlines.

Together, we’ll ride from Yeldeğirmeni to Caddebostan, weaving through the layered urban fabric of Kadıköy. Along the route, we’ll stop at key locations including Haydarpaşa Train Station, the Kadıköy waterfront, Moda Pier, Yoğurtçu Park, and Fenerbahçe, reflecting on urban memory, public space, coastal transformation, and the bikeability of Istanbul’s Anatolian side.

The afternoon will end with a collective seaside picnic in Caddebostan 🧺

The ride is designed as a collective exploration of the city through short talks, conversations with fellow urbanists, and the simple act of moving slowly through familiar streets together.

🌿 Primavera R 2026- The Barcelona Resilience Festival + All Things Urban Barcelona Community Gathering

📍Barcelona 📅 15–16 May 2026

Returning to Barcelona this May, Primavera R 2026 brings together grassroots initiatives, researchers, cooperatives, planners, designers, municipal actors, and local communities working on climate resilience and urban transformation.

The festival includes workshops, site visits, poster sessions, networking events, and collaborative gatherings across the city.

As an official partner of the festival, All Things Urban will also host an informal community meet-up during the networking event at Nau Bostik ✨

During the poster session, members of the All Things Urban Barcelona community and festival participants will gather around the All Things Urban poster space to connect, exchange ideas, and meet fellow urbanists attending the festival.

🌳 Berlin Gathering: From Forest to Frame x All Things Urban Berlin

📍Berlin 📅 Thursday, May 28

This month in Berlin, we’re bringing the community together around biobased construction, adaptive reuse, and climate-neutral building.

Together, we’ll attend From Forest to Frame at the newly transformed Schleiermacherhaus, hosted by Built by Nature Germany, Bauhaus Earth, dRMM Studio, and PEFC.

Before the official programme begins, the All Things Urban Berlin community will join an exclusive private tour of the building led by Tonia Tkachenko, Berlin Studio Lead at the architecture studio dRMM.

The afternoon includes:

🎤 Keynotes on timber construction and biobased materials
🎥 Premiere screening of Our Future: Built by Nature
