Breathe a sigh of relief, the craziness of January is over and the craziness of the rest of the year has begun. At All The Best this means the return of things we love: we’re accepting pitches for new stories, we’re back with more Audio Club events both online and in-person, and we’re showcasing a couple of episodes made in collaboration with other fantastic organisations.
Read on to hear about our work with WestWords and Debris Magazine, plus some of the stories to come out of our 24 Hour Radio Race. Do consider coming along to our Audio Club events over the next few weeks too (Feb 9 and Feb 23)!

#674 - Debris No!: Another episode in collaboration with Debris Magazine, featuring three excerpts from the Debris Magazine Issue 06: NO!
First, a town that bans dogs after an incident, and how that changes the town forever. Then, Alex is openly neurodivergent, but their poem is not interested in confirming your suspected Autism diagnosis.
Lastly, an actor’s personal assistant wades through the blurred boundaries of life, work and performance on the day she’s going to quit.
#675 - Clattertongue: A reading of a short story written by Ren Wyld and performed by Katie Becket for Story Saloon, a live storytelling show and podcast. The story itself comes from the First Nation Anthology of speculative fiction, titled This All Come Back Now, edited by Koori and Lebanese writer Dr Mykaela Saunders.
This interplay between voice and voicelessness, the juxtaposition of the fantastic with the real world, tackles the larger question of empowerment and disempowerment.
#676 - Mirrored: Three stories from the 24 Hour Radio Race in November of last year working to the theme MIRRORED.
Firstly, Ramon reckons you’re probably familiar with all the use cases or how AI will supposedly make our lives more … efficient. But what are you willing to sacrifice for this efficiency?
Then, Aya and Mohammed tell a story of what you might find if you can get over the awkwardness of new social situations.
And Cristina tells a tale about self-reflection, or you being able to recognise your own reflection by.
#677 - The Beyond (WestWords): Part two (part one here) of a showcase of the stories that came out of a collaboration between All The Best and WestWords.
These stories deal with space beyond and within us. Whether it is literally outer space or the complexities of navigating an emotional space. First, a woman is forced to make a decision about which reality she wants to stay in and which one she wants to escape from.
Then, the first female astronaut to undertake a solo mission is sent to the moon, she finds solace in recording her own voice clips. Finally, unrequited love: A spider falls for her housemate, hoping that one day her housemate will see her.
The WestWords Academy, a year-long training program for emerging writers and poets, is currently accepting applications.
Supported by Create NSW, the Academy provides early career development to the cohort of selected artists, supporting and mentoring them to hone their craft, develop projects, seek opportunities, and run arts events.
The program is seminar and workshop-based and involves expert industry facilitrators. The deadline to apply is February 23, 5pm.
All The Best is seeking pitches for short audio features, documentaries, journalism, and fiction. We’re looking for story pitches around 12 - 15 minutes in length.
We'll pair you with a Supervising Producer, you'll get a $200 honorarium for your piece, and you'll have the opportunity to meet a great community of people who love audio all while practicing your audiocraft.
No experience required, just an enthusiasm for sound and story and learning.
February 9 - Listening Party (Online)
This online event will be a showcase of the stories to come out of the 24 Hour Radio Race, where members of the All The Best Audio Club took on the challenge of creating 5-8 minute audio stories relating to the theme 𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐃 in just 24 hours.
The stories were produced by both seasoned audio makers and people completely new to the space.
February 23 - Audio Club challenge! (In-person)
Come meet and chat with your fellow audio makers for our first in-person Audio Club of 2026! We’ll also be announcing the first Audio Club Challenge of the year.
Bring your story ideas, new formats and programs that have been exciting you, and most importantly great vibes
UK-based audio magazine Written In Air is facilitating pitches for the 2027/2028 BBC Radio 4 Commissioning Round.
The outlet works with veteran audio producers, new audio makers, and freelance journalists, writers and storytellers who may not have audio production experience. This callout is accepting pitches for a variety of formats and lengths including audio standalone documentary or fiction pieces as well as short series’.
The deadline to submit is February 6, 5pm EST.
Funded by the Department of Social Services and co-ordinated by the CMTO, Audio Ability is a project that mentors, trains and assigns work placement for people living with disability in community media and creative industries across Australia.
The program is a 16-week blended learning course comprising virtual workshops, in-person training, online self-paced modules and mentoring. The project will assist participating stations to develop their capacity for inclusion, as well as creating accessible resources which will be beneficial to the wider sector.
Expressions of interest to be either a participant or mentor are open now.
The Australian Audio Awards, presented by Mumbrella, Radioinfo & RadioToday, is happening on May 28 at Carriageworks in Sydney.
This is the only dedicated industry gala specifically designed to celebrate and champion Australia’s entire audio ecosystem with 27 categories up for grabs!
Entries close at midnight on March 6.
