#682 - On ya bike: Lots of jumping, diving, falling and some bold decisions.
Trying something new in one’s adulthood may feel like a fish out of the water. Jeffrey felt the same way, too.
From curving out chaotic zigzags in the grass, tipping over, giving up and back-pedalling through self-doubt, the bicycle has become the love of his life.
Then, Matt overcomes his acrophobia as he jumps off a waterfall in Samoa during a study trip. Finally, after being dragged out by a rip at a dangerous Australian beach, Craig avoids the water for 15 years. A move to Timor-Leste pushes him back in.

#684 - Not My Narrative: Stories about people facing down their own internal narratives that threaten to keep them quiet and small.
Idayat is scared to speak her mind. She stutters. But as she becomes an adult, she grows to realise her stutter isn’t an impediment, and that it’s time she claimed her voice, like a preacher.
Then, a story from the amazing Purple Orange podcast that centres narratives around people living with a disability: Ayla spent years hiding her deafness, trying to “keep up”, and pushing through without asking for what she needed. When barriers got in her way, she blamed herself.

Through his kitchen, the everyday collides with resistance and violence, as he invites us to question what it means to act in the world.
Then, putting pressure on ourselves to be perfect is a common thing…sometimes at the expense of yourself and those around you. An apprentice’s obsession with being a perfect cook quietly begins to take over everything else.
Our 2026 Jesse Cox Fellowship is underway, and we’re excited to announce our cohort for this year: Anna Outridge, Tessa Campisi, Ramon Briant and Shareeka Helaluddin.
Each fellow will work with a mentor over the next six months, and participate in a series of workshops on experimental and narrative audiocraft. Our mentors for 2026 are Jon Tjhia, Liz Keen, Farz Edraki and Ian Walker.

Six exceptional creatives will bring their stories to life through immersive audio, poetry and live storytelling, exploring the profound significance of libraries in our collective and personal histories — from sanctuaries of discovery to sites of complex cultural memory.

Our fellow fbi.radio broadcasters and friends at Race Matters are facilitating two more Listening Through sessions in April.
The experimental sound syllabus program was created to foreground the politics of sound and listening, and reclaim them as activist practices.
It’s purpose is to foster an anti-racist creative program that’s not just reactive, but also abstract, imaginative and challenging. The guest artists at the upcoming workshops are Fetle Nega (Nū) andRoberta Joy Rich. Sign up via their Humanitix page.

Columbia’s Radio Race is an audio storytelling competition where producers based anywhere in the world, working independently or in teams, have 56 hours to complete a piece.
This year’s race runs Friday, March 27th - Sunday, April 5th and can be started any time during these dates.
