Seven

Christ had to suffer like a sinner to save our souls from hell.
Only by meeting our demons, could He hope to make us well.
He descended deep into our night and roamed among the graves.
The only way to see the light is to not be the devil’s slave.

That big cross casts a shadow because it’s brighter than the sun.
Its fearsome weight may at once deceive you, but its light won’t be outdone.
Your feeble works which are your pride are built on sinking sand.
The only way to find solid rock is to become a humble man.

This life of glitz and glamour that you feel you must lead
Will only lead to darkness and a desperate sort of greed.
To enter the eternal kingdom, give up all that you possess.
Only by blessing others will you then so be blessed.

Those seductive pleasures and your wanton lust will rot you inside out.
The fleeting moment will soon be gone and leave your soul in doubt.
Seek first a pure and chastely love and you’ll find your heart is filled.
The constant dread that you once felt replaced with a spirit stilled.

Envy, jealousy, and covetous is clutching at empty wealth.
The gold of a thousand misers will never enrich thine self.
Instead, be grateful for all you have. The Lord has blessed you fully.
His righteous treasure rests in heaven, where you will be made holy.

A table spread with so much food that to eat it all would make you ill
While others go without and starve, shows your lack of will.
Be then temperate, show restraint, take only what you need.
Your body and your soul will then be healthy when you feed.

Wrath and anger may be the worst, an all-consuming fire within your soul.
They grow and grow as they feed on themselves yet leave only a dark hole.
Much better then to be patient with a world that may cause you strife.
Turn the other cheek and remember that God’s shown mercy toward your life.

Lastly, do not lay about like an idle sloth,
Life’s a gift shared with others, not a stone to gather moss.
Be diligent in all you do, push forward through the storm.
Heaven awaits at the end of the path, angels welcoming the reborn.

Shun the seven deadly sins. Look to the virtues righteous.
Call on the good Lord Jesus Christ and Mother Mary in heaven pious.
Michael and his angels, his sword drawn to protect.
Thank God we have a cloud of witnesses surrounding all of us elect.
