Speaking Up with Allison Wells
This past week I went in for my annual mammogram. It’s not Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but I find breast cancer doesn’t really care what month it is.
A little over 6 years ago, my best friend died from metastatic breast cancer. Then it was like the floodgates opened. I lost 4 dear friends to breast cancer over the course of 3 years.
Michelle (aged 38)
Jenny (aged 46)
Amanda (aged 39)
Ginger (aged 51)
All married and moms to young girls. All believers. And all gone way before their time. Did you see that the oldest of them was only 51?
So I get my mammogram every year. Because a few minutes of awkward squeezing is better than not being here. This is your reminder to get yours done sooner rather than later.
In happier news, I got to visit my cousin this past weekend and we went to a book signing for one of our favorite authors - T. I. Lowe. She has a new release and I can’t wait to read it because she’s such a phenomenal writer. Indigo Isle is my favorite of hers, but I can’t wait to read South of Somewhere.
