I’ve been learning languages with music since I was a toddler. 👶🎵
It’s no secret—I’ve told you a million times: if you want to learn a language, it has to be fun! 🥳 You need to combine your passions with the language so that it feels more like relaxation than hard work.
Take English, for example. 🤔 How many times have you sung an American song ? 🎤 How many English songs are in your playlist ? How many of them do you know by heart (at least the chorus)? 🎶 Yes, this is also learning ! Even if you don’t know all the words or sometimes mispronounce them, you’re still practicing your listening skills. 👂✨
🎧 How to Improve Your Listening & Pronunciation with Music
✅ Look up the lyrics online and read them while listening to the song. 📖🎵
✅ Record yourself reading/singing the lyrics without the music and compare your pronunciation with the singer’s. 🎙️🔁
✅ Try a fun challenge: pick a song where the singer sings really fast (like Ed Sheeran’s Sing), and mime along in an Instagram story. 📱🎤
✅ Translate the lyrics to understand their meaning—but be careful! Your childhood innocence might be ruined if you look up 2000s hits. 😅 (Did you ever check what 50 Cent is really saying in "Candy Shop"? 👀🍬)
📍 Where Am I in My Language Learning?
As for me, I have to admit… I’m struggling to find Egyptian music that I actually like. 😅 Most of what I find is very traditional and oriental-sounding, but I’m more into pop-rock. 🎸 I’m specifically looking for Egyptian artists because I’ve heard Egyptian Arabic is the most widely understood dialect.
To sum up, so far, I’ve learned how to introduce myself, ask for someone’s name, and greet people. 👋 I’ve also practiced writing these sentences ✍️📖.
As For My English Practice….
Guess what? I’ve also decided to take the C1 Cambridge exam! 🎓✍️ Since I no longer live in an English-speaking country, I feel like I have less exposure to proper English, and I tend to make more mistakes. 🙈 Plus, I miss being a language student! This will be a great opportunity to connect with you all and remind myself what it’s like to be in your shoes. 😊
