"Rollin' in my Sweet Baby's Arms"

I have to be honest. For years I’ve been trying to get published in both Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and/or Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. I’ve mentored people who now publish there regularly. But I can’t seem to break in. I’ve published elsewhere. But to be a regular with a magazine - a paying magazine - that goal eluded me.

But this year I did find me some mystery/thriller magazine love, from ThrillRide magazine. It all started when the then editor, Matt L. Buchman (who writes a great series about a female plane crash investigator), needed an essay for issue #5, Sisters in Arms. I wrote the essay, then I sent him a story for the Gadgets issue. There was a change in editors, and now Blaze Ward, science fiction writer, is doing the editorial work. And has included my stories in every issue this year.

The latest is the Sidekicks issue. You can find work there by Matt L. Buchman and Blaze Ward, as well as Annie Reed, Rebecca Buchanan, Robert J. Binney, Otis Johnson, E. Chris Ambrose, Annie Reed, Wayne R. Key, and me.

My story is “Rollin’ in my Sweet Baby’s Arms,” yeah, like the bluegrass song, which plays an important role in the story. I think everyone has had someone from their old school days get in touch after many years, right? How did it go? Was it fun, or traumatizing? Share your story in the comments!
