“Get it while it’s hot!”
The New Balance x Ali on the Run discount code is officially live! Don’t miss out on getting up to 25% off when you use code TEAMALI at checkout. NB discounts are hard to come by, and I think you deserve some SC Elites!
Offer is valid through May 31, 2026. That’s why I said “Get it while it’s hot!” (One of the all-time best Sex and the City episodes, BTW.)
It’s 9:18 on Thursday night.
Annie and Ellie are both in bed, and I’m finally in my robe, sitting at my computer, debating what little dessert treat I’m in the mood for tonight.
Today was a fun one: Annie’s dress rehearsal at the theater where she’ll have her dance recital later this week. I was a room mom tonight, so I was backstage with a bunch of other moms, helping all the girls get dressed and changed and spraying the wispies of the slicked-back buns and bringing them backstage for their dances (and getting to watch from the wings!). A great group of kids and my favorite group of moms, watching my daughter do her favorite thing with all her friends… This is the good stuff right here. I love it.
It is, very officially, Life’s Busy Season.
This month has been awesome.
With a few holidays this month, and the way the calendar shakes out, I’ve gotten a ton of extra Annie time since April, and it has been the very best. I’ve savored every second of it.
It’s also been such a busy month — all with mostly good, fun stuff, but nonstop stuff.
And, unavoidably, treatment stuff. I’m grateful to be feeling pretty well on my new treatment protocol, but it is a lot to manage. There are so many long appointments, often an hour away. Having cancer is really feeling like a full-time job these days. I don’t have time for this disease! I want to play and have fun, not hang out in the cancer center! Boo lame! (Grateful for medicine / science / research / doctors / nurses etc. etc. etc.)
This week was actually one of the first times that I’ve felt like, whoa, being a solo mom (I don’t love the term solo mom or single mom, but IDK what resonates for me; will have to experiment with labels!) who works for herself and has a home and a dog and a 7-year-old and is in active treatment for stage IV breast cancer is no joke.
It’s all feeling like a lot. Life is mostly great at the moment, but it’s also really a lot, and I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed. It’s fine and it’s a season. A good season, a busy season, a season where I’m actually giving myself a tiny bit of credit for all that I’m attempting to handle. It’s not often graceful, but we’re doing it!
OK I’m going for the frozen dark chocolate peanut butter bananas. (I can so easily take down a bag of these.) (TrüFrü ILY.) OK and a brownie bite.
This week on the Ali on the Run Show:
Re-Run: The 2019 CIM OTQ Pacers: Another Throwback Thursday! This time, we’re headed back to December 2019, revisiting a super wholesome conversation with Menso de Jong, Chris Stehula, and Ken Rakestraw. They were the three men tasked with pacing that year’s group of women vying for Olympic Trials qualifying times at the California International Marathon, and they aced the assignment. This is one of my all-time favorite episodes, and I hope you love listening back to it.
Watching:
NOTHING, BECAUSE I AM TOO BUSY. The horror. I have not yet watched the Summer House reunion (part one!), and that is devastating to me! (Seen so many spoilers and memes, so I feel like I’ve seen it, but still, eager to get a proper viewing, at some point.)
Ali Elsewhere:
I was a guest on the Fueling Forward podcast with Maddie Alm (who is also a previous Ali on the Run Show guest!). I love Maddie, I think she’s such a great podcast host, and I was psyched to get to chat with her.
I’m headed to NYC next weekend to be a part of the Mastercard New York Mini 10K! I have loved this race since I first ran it in 2011, and I love getting to be a part of it in any capacity. Last year, I was supposed to be on the broadcast, but I had just gotten my new cancer diagnosis and I was about to start chemo and it just felt like way too much, and I ended up canceling. I felt awful about it. The team understood, of course, but it was one of many times that cancer really messed with my work life, and I will never not hate that. So, yay, I’m going back this year, and will be doing finish line interviews with some of the women from these incredible pro fields. I am going to have a great group of friends in town, I am excited to get to work, and I’m in the mood for some NYC time. Can’t wait!
