EXCITING NEWS to kick this off!
I have a New Balance discount code coming for you on Tuesday! This is rare, as you probably know! We got to do this limited-time offer for Ali on the Run Show listeners last year and it was a tremendous success, so we’re doing it again! (Thank you, NB! ILYSM!)
From May 26–31, you’ll be able to get up to 25% off select footwear, apparel, and accessories (including women’s, men’s, and youth products) when you use code TEAMALI at checkout. I’ll share the direct page link as soon as it’s live, but for now, I’m psyched to let you know that if you’ve been eyeing a certain pair of shoes, a sports bra, or a pair of hot pink socks (!!!), now’s the time to grab ’em.
As I’ve shared quite a bit lately, May is a fickle month for me.
There’s so much about this month that I love. Mother’s Day, recital season, end-of-school-year events and activities, so many birthdays, opening the pool, all while the world is in bloom.
It’s also my big anniversary month, and that can go any number of ways.
May 12 — the anniversary of the First Worst Day of My Life — took me out last week. It was a hard, heavy day.
But May 19 — marking three years since my first breast cancer diagnosis — was a totally fine and normal day. I take these days as they come, and I don’t force emotion in any particular direction. My [first] cancerversary day was just fine, and I love that for me.
This past weekend was one of the greatest of all-time. It was one of those perfect weekends where Saturday was busy and filled with friends (we had an impromptu party, and it was so fun), and Sunday was chill with family time followed by more friend time. I felt so happy the whole time, and after carrying the weight of May 12, it felt so great to just enjoy life a little.
That being said: I would love a vacation from my own head.
I go through these phases from time to time, where I am just a bit sick of myself and wish I could take a break from myself.
I’ve done a bunch of interviews lately where I’m on the other side of the mic. I much prefer being the one to ask the questions, but I’ve said yes to a few opportunities, because when Katie Couric asks you for a sit-down (!!!), you’d be insane to say no. And when Dr. Rosenkranz encourages you to share your story with a specific audience, you say yes, because she saved your life and you’re obsessed with her. And when a writer from the Boston Globe reaches out, well, that’s an obvious yes, too.
So many amazing opportunities, and I am grateful for each of them.
It also means I’ve spent many hours lately “sharing my story.” Talking about how I started running (“Craigslist roommate had medals on her walls”), about how I started the Ali on the Run Show (“It originated as a hobby because I missed Central Park and my running buddies across the river”), and, of course, about the cancer of it all. I’m a bit of a walking soundbite at this point, and I’m oversaturated with myself. That sounds gross! It’s not! It’s just a touch over-indulgent at the moment. I’m feeling over-exposed!
So I am currently fantasizing about going to a lovely hotel for a few days and just sitting in silence and dreaming. Going for runs or walks. Dedicating a few hours a day to tackling my inbox while surrounded by nature and beauty and fresh air. I’m picturing a room with a balcony and a view that makes me drop my shoulders and breathe deeper. (I won’t ever book this for myself, because god forbid I treat myself! But it’s on my mind!)
With that: I’m shutting up now. We’ve got a big few weeks coming up, including dance recital week, school performances, birthday parties, my next PET scan, and two work trips (it’s summer 10K season, baby!).
OK byeeee!
This week on the Ali on the Run Show:
Re-Run: The First Ali on the Run Show LIVE Event: Not a single second with which to record lately, so I decided to do a little Throwback Thursday! We’re traveling back to June 2018, when I was 20 weeks pregnant with Annie, making my live show debut with an all-star group of guests including Meb Keflezighi, Andrea Barber, Chris Heuisler, and Des Linden. (I know re-airing an old episode is a little lame, but I almost never do this, and life has been wild lately, so hopefully you’re cool with the occasional #TBT. I actually loved listening back to this one, eight years after the fact. I hope you did, too! If you didn’t, “I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me.”)
Watching:
The Summer House Season 10 finale. Oof. What an absolutely bleak season! Can’t wait for the reunion, though! (Otherwise not watching anything because life has been busy and thus I’ve fallen behind on me Vanderpump Rules journey. I’ll resume at some point!)
I am so grateful for the wonderful brands and partners I get to work with on the Ali on the Run Show. Supporting them = supporting me!
