Sharing my best preloved finds of the year for Second Hand September

2024 is most definitely the year I fell in love with second-hand shopping. On the rare occasion I’ve bought brand new, it just hasn’t hit quite the same. This month marks another Second-Hand September, so what better time to yap about preowned purchasing some more?

I found some real gems this year, so I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favourites, to both highlight the treasures that can be found within second-hand marketplaces and stores, and maybe invoke a little inspiration to a preloved piece or two.

This Good American blazer was a welcome addition to my wardrobe and sourced from a local second-hand designer boutique in Brighton. It was brand new with tags, as many “second-hand” finds are, and has already been rotated religiously - I’m excited to start styling it even more this autumn.

The fluffy bag pictured is from Stine Goya and snagged (basically) brand new on Depop. It’s a bit kitschy but not too much, and I love bringing it along with *serious* outfits to add a little charm.

Probably my most worn item of clothing this summer was this linen shirt from a Deiji Studios set I picked up, again, on Depop. It’s crafted from the most comfortable, cooling material and I couldn’t recommend investing in this set more. It’s available brand new on the likes of Net-A-Porter, but I recommend searching online for someone selling second-hand - I got mine for nearly half the RRP.

The top I’m wearing in the above pic is a preloved Paloma Wool crop, and the pattern makes a nice change from typical basic tanks and adds a bit more dimension to a minimal everyday outfit. I see this top in a few colours for sale all the time on the likes of Vinted etc, so you should be able to secure your own easily.

Speaking of Paloma Wool, I also picked up the above bag for a bargain, and it’s been my go-to throughout summer as it’s deceivingly roomy. Its patterned shades are the perfect pair for this Aligne trench coat I got brand new with tags, for over half the price of what it was on sale for brand new at the time. Pricey items like coats are always worth looking into on the second-hand market, IMO.

Another bonus of shopping preowned is greater access to non-UK brands that are harder to shop in this corner of the world. This St Agni dress is the perfect example, and definitely kickstarted my love affair with Aussie fashion labels.

While the Ganni sandals might be a bit of a love-hate, I am part of the love half, and they were on my feet non-stop throughout summer, and will be the next I’m sure. If not, they’ll be sold on again to someone who can equally love them, and so the cycle goes on. That’s the beauty of a second-hand fashion economy.
