I attended the world premiere of Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul at New York’s Gramercy Theatre. (You can read my full report and review here.) After the show, there was a panel discussion moderated by author Alan Light and featuring Devon Allman, Galadrielle Allman, booking agent Jonny Podell and director James Keach. I thought it was very moving, and am excited to share the full conversation here. It was captured by videographer Michael Ezrach.
The Macon premiere is tonight, and I wish everyone going there a wonderful time.
The film will be in theaters nationwide for a brief run starting next week, June 17. You can search here to see if there’s a theater near you. Also, please note that if you are headed for the premiere event in Savannah next week, I will be there conducting an interview Gregg’s manager Michael Lehman, one of the movie’s producer and its primary driver.
It will be on a streaming service before long. I’ll share that info when I have it.

Brothers and Sisters: the Allman Brothers Band and The Album That Defined The 70s was my third straight book to debut in the New York Times Non-Fiction Hardcover Bestsellers List, following Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan and One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band. My first book was Big in China: My Unlikely Adventures Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Becoming a Star in Beijing, about my experiences raising a family in Beijing and touring China with a popular original blues band. It was optioned for a movie by Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Productions. I am also a guitarist and singer who fronts two bands, Big in China and Friends of the Brothers, the premier celebration of the Allman Brothers Band.
