I had the pleasure of speaking with Sara Blanco of RNE’s Diario de Ucrania podcast this week. The U.S.-Ukraine partnership since Trump re-entered the White House is a masterclass in how not to negotiate a peace agreement: there’s been no identifiable goal from Trump, responsibility has been passed around the administration, often to advisors who either have no idea or have opposing views and Trump just turns on and off aid at a whim.
And it’s absolutely stunning how Trump thinks that he has some sort of special connection with Putin that will facilitate a deal but over and over again, Putin keeps playing him because, obviously, he doesn’t have the slightest bit of warmth towards Trump. Yep, pretty surreal to say the least.
It goes without saying that Europe must step up. It is reaping what it’s sown in terms of decades of leaving defense and most defense industry to the U.S.
