Hello, and a warm welcome to this week’s Cambridge Ladies’ Dining Society. Here’s my question. Have you read any good history books recently, enjoyed a historical podcast or visited a memorable place that has been preserved for centuries?
I was lucky enough to have a look around St Paul’s Cathedral in London recently, having been invited to give a talk in the Wren Suite there, on 9 March. The title is ‘Louise Creighton: A pioneer of women’s rights and education’ and you can find more information about it here. It’s an event to mark International Women’s Day 2026, so please forgive my tongue-in-cheek reference, above, to the remarkable Louise Creighton as ‘the Bishop’s wife.’ There was so much more to her than that, and I’m discovering new things all the time. This post is a brief introduction to her pioneering career as an author and public historian.
