I almost ruined lunch finishing this sentence

You’re walking down a hallway, replaying the meeting. The thing you said forty minutes ago, fine in the moment, faintly cringe now, runs again on a loop.

And underneath it, a second track has already started: the email you’ll need to send when you get back to your desk, three drafts of language for a sentence that hasn’t happened yet.

Two tracks, running at once. One reaching backward, one reaching forward. And for as long as both are running, here’s the strange part: you’re not in the hallway. You’re not anywhere in particular. The hallway is just where your body happens to be while your attention holds the ropes.
