🔎 Report: State of AI in Austria 2025

The latest McKinsey study, created with QuantumBlack and the Industriellenvereinigung (IV), takes a close look at how Austrian companies are adopting AI. Drawing on insights from more than 60 firms, it finds an average AI maturity score (AIQ) of 30 — slightly below the EU and global benchmarks — revealing both untapped potential and clear strengths. Austria performs well in data security and platform architecture, yet many organizations still lack defined strategies, KPIs, and scalable implementation models. Only one in five companies has a formal AI roadmap, and just 6% manage to embed AI effectively into day-to-day operations. Sectors like finance and telecom stand out as frontrunners, demonstrating what successful integration can look like. The report positions Austria at a turning point — urging a shift from experimentation to measurable transformation, with stronger focus on data governance, talent development, and agentic AI.
