📰 RTR Study: AI Trust Gap Mirrors Competence Gap
Austrians are deeply skeptical of AI in news media. A paper from Austria’s media regulator (RTR), published October 14, 2025, confirms a critical trust gap. The “AI and Media Trust 2025” study (authored by FH St. Pölten & FH Burgenland) found over 70% of Austrians view AI in news negatively. This trust gap seems to correlate to the 70% competence gap, as most feel unable to judge AI’s role. People distrust what they don’t understand. This finding highlights that building trust isn’t just about marketing; it’s about closing this competence gap through education and transparent, human-accountable systems. » Link to the full study (PDF)
🇦🇹 Austria’s AI Potential: Lacking Courage, Not Talent
On October 22nd, the Senat der Wirtschaft (Senate of Economy) hosted “Austria as an AI Location,” featuring State Secretary Zehetner, IBM, and Fraunhofer Austria. The discussion highlighted the planned Vienna “AI Gigafactory” and reached a clear consensus: Austria’s main hurdles aren’t technology, but data chaos and a lack of clear implementation strategy. The core challenge, as summarized by the Senat, is that Austria has the know-how and talent. What’s missing is the courage and decisiveness to execute. » Event Page & Media

👉 OpenAI Signs US$38 Billion Cloud Deal with AWS for Nvidia Chips
OpenAI has agreed a seven-year, US$38 billion infrastructure deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to gain access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs for AI model training and deployment. The deal marks a major step in scaling AI compute capacity and diversifying away from exclusive reliance on Microsoft.
👉 Alibaba unveils WAN 2.5 – China’s next leap in generative video AI.
The model turns text or images into 1080p clips with lifelike motion, voice, and music - rivaling Google’s Veo 3.1 and OpenAI’s Sora 2. It marks another massive performance surge from China in multimodal video generation.

🧑💻 European Open Source going out of fashion
US-made open AI models have lost their lead to Chinese ones. Since March 2025, downloads of Chinese open models -driven largely by Alibaba’s Qwen - have rapidly surpassed those of US models like Llama. Even major US companies now cite Qwen for its speed and cost advantages. European models, while starting strong in 2023, are nowadays irrelevant. The race for open model dominance is heating up fast, with the competitive landscape likely to shift dramatically over the next year - fingers crossed for a strong Mistral comeback. » deepdive and more info

HunyuanImage 3.0 is a powerful Native Multimodel Model for Image Generation. 80B parameters, Largest Image Generation MoE Model. Reasons with world knowledge and generates text within images.
Inference speeds increase tenfold as Ant Group open-sources industry’s first high-performance diffusion language-model inference framework, dInfer.
Ant Group officially release Ring-1T, the open-source trillion-parameter thinking model build on the Ling 2.0 architecture. Ring-1T achieves silver-level IMO reasoning through pure natural language reasoning.
Baidu has officially released and open-sources its in-house multimodal document-parsing model, PaddleOCR-VL. It’s a lightweight, efficient model whose core component has only 0.9 billion parameters. It can accurately recognize complex elements - such as text, handwritten Chinese Characters, tables, formulas and charts - and support 109 languages. It is positioned for documents - intelligence tasks like government and enterprise document management, knowledge retrieval, archive digitization and scientific information extraction.
DeepSeek OCR processes PDFs at 1/10th the cost of traditional OCR tools. DeepSeek-OCR takes a new approach. Instead of sending long context directly to an LLM, it turns it into an image, compresses that image into visual tokens, and then passes those tokens to the LLM. Fewer tokens lead to lower computational cost from attention and a larger effective context window. This makes chatbots and document models more capable and efficient.
Huawei has officially unveiled the next-generation operating system HarmonyOS 6, which covers more than 90 Huawei device models and has already opened its public beta programme.
Is AI-driven stock trading a new secret to wealth? - NeurIPS 25’s latest research reveals the truth about LLM live trading. LLMs perform well on structured financial tasks, but they still have significant shortcomings in real-market dynamic decision-making, risk management and handling black-swan events. Projects like AlphaArena show the potential of AI in quantitive trading, yet DeepFund’s research warns that it’s essential to understand the limits of AI investing. Investors shouldn’t treat AI as a “wealth code”. It should be used as a decision-support tool, combined with their own risk tolerance and market judgement, to create a human-machine collaborative investment model.
