This Week’s Current:
We wrapped up July 4th, and I am so happy it is over. It is a day most parents dread in the South Bay. The parties start early, and it is an all-day affair of drinking and debauchery for teenagers. If you aren’t with your child, you are tracking them all day long on Life360. We do not condone drinking; we are pretty strict about it, actually. We talk a lot about the repercussions and the things that can happen when you drink. We reiterate the “is the risk vs the reward”? Is it worth it to feel horrible, look stupid, and potentially do something you wouldn’t do because you are under the influence?
Recently, at a party, many 8th graders heading into 9th grade were drinking to the point of puking and passing out. I am just not ok with it; they are WAY too young. Their little brains are far from being developed. And with social media now, everything can be photographed or recorded. NOT TO MENTION, the stupid choices kids make when they are drinking. I have so many thoughts on this topic.
What are your thoughts on teen drinking???
I am proud of my kids; they made me proud yesterday. Throughout the entire day, they checked in, answered texts, and told us if they were going somewhere else. They made good decisions, and everyone was home safely by 10:30, and I am grateful for that!
The scene in Newport Beach was gnarly. I was afraid something similar would happen here, but it was pretty tame by sunset. I think everyone started partying SO early that they crashed here by dinnertime.
My fourth was not exciting at all. I really don’t have any FOMO for this holiday. We hung at home, I drove the kids to the beach, and then we enjoyed a nice dinner out with friends. Not your typical July 4th activity. But after a day of keeping tabs on my kids, we were able it was nice to have some time to enjoy ourselves. We went to Arthur J, which is a local steakhouse with a Mad Men, 70’s vibe.
On Repeat:
The older I get, and the more time and money I invest in my skin, I want to be exposed less and less to the sun. I got this Eric Javits hat a few weeks ago because I wanted a hat that covered my face and chest. It is an investment, but it is one of the best hats I own. It covers everything; it’s lightweight, it doesn’t itch, it stays on my head, and it’s the perfect color that won’t show wear. It is also packable, which I will test out this weekend! It is currently on sale, $100 off! If you want to get one for yourself, shop it HERE. Swimsuit is Else Lingerie, Earrings Vintage.
Another item I have been searching for is a medium-sized straw bag. I had my eye on the Loewe forever, but it is just so hard to justify that price on a straw bag. Mer-Sea now has a bag VERY similar to the Loewe or Celine straw bags for $118. It is handmade by artisans, with real leather handles and pocket details. It’s beautifully made at such a great price. It has been a great bag that I have taken with me to the pool and the beach. It is now on sale for $94!
In the summer months, my hands, lips, and feet always feel so dry. The one thing I keep next to my bed, and in my cosmetics drawer, is the Mutha Lip Butter. It is my favorite of all the lip balms I have tried.
This is the BEST sunscreen. I am obsesssed! It’s so light and blends beautifully. It is not greasy, but it is hydrating. It is the one sunscreen I am reaching for frequently.
