Manifesting ease is making your life harder

I’ve noticed a pattern with my coaching clients who begin to question “if manifestation works” when something doesn’t go their way in their life. It’s a very valid question, given the way manifestation is portrayed online.

It’s gotten me into deep reflective mode on the concept of ease versus the opposite of ease. Most people would consider the opposite of ease to be: hardship, difficulty, challenge, discomfort.

And immediately just typing out those words brought up tension in my body, so imagine what your subconscious mind might start to think of those words and what they mean. If we were to admit that hardship, difficulty, challenge + discomfort are part of the process, part of life — your subconscious mind would feel hopeless.

Especially when it comes to manifestation. Why? Because manifestation has somehow become synonymous with ease, effortlessness + magic.

If you’re someone who’s been manifesting with the expectation that only good things will happen, no discomfort will ever occur, it can be effortless and feel magical — then you’re setting yourself up to feel disappointed if something does go unexpectedly. You’re setting yourself up to wonder if you’re doing something wrong, when you’re probably not.

That’s why I want to talk about this. Because I firmly believe we’re all natural manifestors and can truly get what we want, buuuuuut I also think we have a little bit of a misguided definition of how manifestation works/what it looks like in real life.

So, if I were to tell you that the point of manifestation isn’t to have an ease-filled life, you might start to wonder what even is the point of manifestation?

Here’s the thing — manifestation can be synonymous with ease, effortlessness + magic. But, where we make it harder for ourselves is hoping that manifestation means 100% ease, 100% effortlessness, 100% magic — 100% of the time.

Ease is possible.

Effortlessness is possible.

Magic is possible.

Just not 24/7. Because we’re humans meant to feel the entire range of human emotions.

Without challenge, you wouldn’t know what ease feels like. Without effort, you wouldn’t appreciate effortlessness. Without structure or routine, you wouldn’t enjoy the magic that seems to pop up out of nowhere.

I believe the point of manifestation is to have such a handle on your own energy, thoughts + vibration that life feels easy, effortless + magical.

Notice the key word: feels. I didn’t say that life IS easy, effortless + magical. Just that it can feel that way.

Life can (and probably will) still bring up challenges, hardships + unwanted things. But you’re allowed to feel how you want to feel through it. You’re allowed to navigate it with ease, effortlessness and magic even if by definition, it’s not ideal.

For example: a truck crashed into my house, and it turned out to be a major, positive turning point in my life. Was the truck crash this beautiful, easy thing to navigate? No.

But, handling all the logistics of the truck crash unfolded very easily given the circumstances. It catapulted us into our dream life, in the most unexpected way.

So in a wild way, I am grateful for the truck crashing into my home. Because it was the very bold nudge I needed from the universe that something needed to change.

What do you expect manifestation to play out as? Here’s where I invite you to really think about what your definition of ease, effortlessness and magic is.

We often times jump into manifestation because of what we’ve seen on social media. And, it’s so amazing that manifestation has become such a popular topic + so well-known. But, it’s also been misconstrued and misunderstood in so many ways that a lot of people “try it” and think it “doesn’t work”.

But my challenge to you is, what if you’re thinking about manifestation from the wrong lens? What if you’re approaching it in an unhelpful way, that’s setting you up for a frustrating journey?

So if you’ve found yourself manifesting the vague energy of “ease” - I want you to get deeper, get clearer.

Because if you’re expecting ease, but realize you have to put in effort or feel some sort of discomfort — then manifestation is going to feel super frustrating, super fast.

What if ease meant that you had the tools to navigate whatever life brings your way, with ease? Rather than, “no bad things happen to me”

What if ease meant that you had the capacity to regulate yourself through discomfort? Rather than, “I never feel uncomfy”

What if effortlessness meant that you became consistent in showing up for yourself + taking care of your energy to the point where it feels like second-nature? Instead of “I don’t do anything and it just falls into my lap”

What if magic meant that you found the magic in the ordinary of your day-to-day and fell so deeply in love with your current life, even if you want something different, so that you’re automatically on the same frequency of magic? Instead of “I’m going to wait for something good to happen to me”

If this is starting to land and make you rethink your relationship with manifestation, here’s where I’d start.

Grab your journal (and if you can’t, type out on your phone) and explore these questions, with unapologetic honesty:

  1. How do I believe manifestation works? And what do I believe my role is, when it comes to manifesting a desire?

  2. What does ease look like in my daily life?

  3. Why do I want effortlessness? Is this desire coming from a place of excitement, fear or complacency?

  4. What evidence of magic do I have in my life?

  5. What am I manifesting now, and why do I want it? What do I believe “having” this manifestation will make me feel? What does this manifestation mean about me?

Once you go through these questions, look at your answers from an outsider’s perspective and just see where the gaps are. Poke holes in your reasoning, question some of the things that don’t make sense. Essentially, coach yourself through and start to create a definition of manifestation that serves you.

Create a definition + expectation that makes you want to manifest and live this work. Not one that feels like an escape plan or an easy way out.

Here’s an example definition of manifestation that you can play off of:

Manifestation means that I have the power to create my own reality, and get whatever I want - but, it has to be a true desire. If it’s a desire rooted out of fear, it may not manifest. If it’s a desire rooted in what someone else has, it may not be my own true desire. Manifestation means that I’m the creator of my own reality, my own energy and my own inner world. With this, I can experience ease, effortless and magic in my life, every single day, no matter the circumstances. And, I’m open to receiving beautiful things that I cannot even think of!

I’d love if you shared your definition of manifestation in the comments, or some of your responses to your journal questions and we can craft up a definition that serves YOU, together 💋
