Whenever I sit down and reflect on the many things I have done and everything that has happened to me over the years, I am constantly reminded that life, for all of us, is a journey.
To me, this is also a relatively positive way to depict the future, evoking feelings of adventure, exploration and discovery, and with these, a sense that anything can happen to us along the way.
Very few journeys will ever be entirely smooth. I certainly have experienced my own fair share of ups, downs, twists and turns in my long life so far!
I am also continuously fascinated by the unpredictable way in which all of our lives seem to unfold, as we navigate our way forward, each on our own unique path and destination.
Every once in a while, we come to a career crossroads and have to make an important decision...
“Do I turn left? Do I turn right? Or should I continue straight on?”
We don’t know what will ultimately prove the best choice, at that time, but we still have to decide. But whichever path we choose, each will likely take us to a completely different future life with totally diverse outcomes.
Such times inevitably test many of the attributes we may have, including our bravery, our ability to seize an opportunity, our imagination, and curiosity…
And then there's serendipity... all those chance encounters we will have along the way with significant people who can radically impact our lives, too.
We all want to enjoy a successful, fulfilling and happy life, but the degree to which we can achieve this will always depend largely upon luck.
Because life often plays out like a game of Snakes and Ladders; we roll the dice, we move forward, maybe a couple of steps, maybe a few more... Sometimes, we may bound up a ladder 😀… But occasionally, we may slide down a snake ☹️
But fortunately, success in life does not have to rely solely on the roll of a dice…
There are lots of things we can all do to load the dice significantly in our favour…
These are amongst the most important things for us to learn.
A Few Wise Words - a special journey for me
Several years ago, my own path took a fascinating diversion.
It was a bit of a crossroads moment for me, but I was also very happy with the road I was on.
In the end, I decided to add an intriguing new route to my journey, which would eventually lead to the creation of our book, A Few Wise Words (volume one).
It became a mission of mine to meet with and get to know many of the world’s most successful and highly respected individuals, from different walks of life, and talk with them in depth about their lives.
I wanted to find out, at a fundamental level, what they believe they did to become so incredibly accomplished in life. I would then help each of them share their stories of success, their wisdom, and their most valuable advice, to help anyone who aspires to do really well in life, to make the most of their own journey, too.
My inspiration to follow this path would come from a combination of three things:
A difficult start in my earlier life, and being forced to give up my passion
Wanting to be the best father I could be for my young son
An epiphany while exploring one of the World's most beautiful tropical islands
