Incorporating heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) into multifamily buildings can be a challenge due to space, noise and airspace constraints. This factsheet profiles a project in Portland, Oregon led by Great Northwest Installations that sought to replace gas fired, in-unit water heaters with heat pump technology in a 400-unit multifamily apartment complex.
