An Homage to Annapolis

I spent my wild youth* (high school years) on the Isle of Kent (Kent Island, an island in the Chesapeake Bay).

When I think of Annapolis, I do not think of the mall, of which I was a frequent visitor. I think of downtown Annapolis, where the tourists, navy midshipmen, and locals far and wide come together and enjoy the views of… the Eastern Shore, of which Kent Island is prominent. So, you go there and you look back and think, hey, I was just there!

There’s a big ol’ bridge you have to cross as well which costs money, and can scare you if you’re not used to driving across it.

But more to the point, I wanted to make something that kind of captured the laidback feel of Annapolis, which is why I made this print for “Naptown”. It’s got Maryland stuff, it’s got Annapolis stuff, it’s got ink, it’s got watercolor, it’s got clouds, what more could you want?

Here’s my short video where I did the color for it.

This is an exclusive preview (!!). Videos take ages to film, edit, find the music, edit, make a thumbnail, edit, type all the stuff into Youtube. A short video is all I can do these days.

Walking around feels safe (don’t quote me on that) and dipping into shops and bars is a fun experience. I’ve had a few bar crawls there for my birthday and knock on wood, no bad experiences. Except that one time but that’s a story for another newsletter.

*My youth was not wild. I spent a lot of time reading, messing around with Photoshop (the cracked kind) and chatting on AOL Instant Messenger.
