Stefano Contiero (b. 1991, Bassano del Grappa, Italy) is an Italian-Dominican self-taught artist and Creative Director working at the intersection of generative systems and emotional introspection. His practice explores identity, memory, and transformation through a recursive dialogue between the subconscious and technology.
The path to that practice was a long accumulation. Contiero began coding at eight, spent years working as a product designer and digital consultant across startups and established companies including a two-year stint at Zalando, and carried that technical fluency directly into his art. When he began making generative work in 2018, he already understood how complexity becomes something a person feels.
What are you working on currently?
Something between a fashion house and a cultural house, beginning with one-of-a-kind Italian-made garments created from artist-written generative systems.
What are your red flags/green flags when evaluating a startup/founder?
Red flag: ego bigger than what they’re building
Green flag: excessive optimism
What do you want the future to look like?
Abundant and brighter than today!

Overhyped: taste and polished aesthetics
Underhyped: doing nothing while looking at the ceiling
What’s a belief you hold that most people in your industry would disagree with?
Digital experiences and assets will one day be on par with physical ones. I believe the best way to experience digital is when it goes beyond just a screen.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ignored?
“Be very good at one thing.” I prefer to obsess over wherever my curiosity takes me. I believe in rabbit hole maxxing.
What do you spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about?
The joy of aging and the cycle of life.
