I realize any transformation I have undergone, big or small, first requires dancing in the face of resistance. Suspending through the discomfort and riding the process relies on finding ways to suffer less and embrace more inner power. Immediately, the mind has a choice – to move toward more freedom or doom.
Whether I consciously know I need change, or I am striving for a specific goal, mindset greets me with all possibilities laid out before me.
The work becomes to feel into these pathways and shake hands with change or revert back to where I was. There is a time and place when either may be correct. The gauge is often how loudly our reaction is yelling and our ability to handle the suffering.
Some times call for making a great sweeping change. Others are about sitting with my intuition and asking if there is a different perspective to be found. Either way, there is energy there to be cleared and suffering to be alleviated.
When we are faced with the space of potential change, choice, decision, we may weigh the options.
And what are we really asking ourselves?
How much am I willing to suffer?
Facing decisions holds one certainty – something will have to change. A small death, a release, a mindset shift, a letting go will be part of the journey. We know this. As growth requires new skin again and again. Even when we are looking at the simplest of decisions, our life’s course becomes defined by our choices. (A different choice would be a different experience.)
And experience defines our truth. What we have experienced enough times becomes the gauge. Once the truth reveals itself, we cannot unsee it.
This is why the reaction shows up. It wants to be sure you see the truth.
When I breathe through discomfort and seek truth, I remain connected to my power. Choosing the way of my heart, my path journeys along in lines, curves and spirals that are just right for me.
If I were to get caught up in my reactions, I imagine my pathway to be a zigzag of many proportions, a realm of dead ends and unfinished stories.
As a challenge arises that tugs at the very soul, a big reaction to life catches our attention, this can be such a blessing!
An opportunity to directly step into a journey of the heart. A place where we get to be most honest with ourselves as well as fierce, tender and unconditionally loving. Each day, we may ask the smaller questions, get to know the whispers.
When we are facing our bigger life questions, the risk feels more immense. Thus, only the heart could be strong enough and most capable of holding the space. And already knowing what it sounds like gives quicker access back to center. Less suffering, the whole point.
Knowing how to listen to the heart has been my saving grace.
And personal power is in choosing to move from this heart center. Every time.
Leaning in and listening to my reactions is like inviting my older wiser self in for a cup of tea. I can sit with her, taking all the time we need to reflect. To hold life’s experiences up to the light, taking note of where there’s a wound to be healed and where the information is just pure and available. And allow it to find its way to center, as I breathe. And intend.
I will treat my own process with love and tenderness the way I would a friend visiting, seated on my sofa, pouring out their woes. I will pour the tea. Offering pause, allowing time to process through to the clear decisions… I will take my time.
Clarity comes when a soul is warm, calm and listening. And nothing warms up a heart better than a nice cup of tea.
