Welcome to the second ever NerdNews Deluxe. A short, sharp, TL;DR summary of four stories that caught my eye this week. Plus three brilliant bits I found on Substack and beyond that you might love, including my old mate Wil Anderson’s awesome podcast .

But can I start by wishing everyone a “happy nation science week”! This year Science Week runs from 15 - 23 August (yep that covers 9 days — always loved that about science week!) and celebrates Australia’s incredible, if shockingly unresourced, science community.

The full list of all events can be found here.

It found a hole in the booking software, booked him months further ahead than allowed, then kicked someone off the waitlist to move him up. Nobody asked it to do that. But hey, sometimes you’ve just gotta feel the burn!

Yep Australia’s first bona fide rogue AI story, was over gym class!
