God is calling: Where are you?

Dear Friend,

Today, I was asked to teach on Eve; yes, Eve as in Adam and Eve. And as I prepared, I thought to share my musings with you. I hope these words speak to your heart 💗

The story of Eve stretches across Genesis chapter 2–4. We meet her as the first woman, the first wife, and the first mother. Her very name, Eve (from the Hebrew chavah), means living. She was called the “mother of all living.”

But when we hear Eve’s name today, the first thought that often comes to mind is not life, but mistake. We remember the fruit, the serpent, the curse. We blame her for labour pains and period cramps(particularly as women). We shake our heads at her choice. But maybe in doing so, we miss something important: Eve was human, just like us. And hidden in her story are lessons that still speak loudly to our hearts today.

I’d love to share some of them with you.

🌸 The Importance of Obedience

Eve’s choice to eat from the tree wasn’t simply about breaking a rule. It was about mistrusting God’s Word. And that mistrust had consequences. The Bible says their eyes were opened and shame rushed in. They hid from the very God who had walked with them in the cool of the day.

Her story is a reminder that God’s instructions are not burdens meant to trap us. They are boundaries meant to protect us. When we step outside of them, the weight of the choice doesn’t only fall on us, it ripples into generations. One decision can alter a story.

And maybe that’s something to hold close to heart: when you’re faced with choices, pause long enough to remember that obedience is never wasted. It carries fruit into the future.

🌸 The Power of Temptation

Notice how the serpent tempted Eve. He didn’t grab the fruit and shove it into her hand. He planted doubt. “Did God really say…?”

That’s how temptation still works today. It begins in whispers. It questions God’s goodness, His faithfulness, His truth. It takes the sharp edge off disobedience and makes it feel like an option worth exploring.

But just as Eve’s story shows us, the moment we start entertaining those whispers, we’ve already opened the door. The lesson? Guard your heart. Guard your mind. Hold onto God’s Word, not loosely, but tightly, because it’s His Word that anchors us when temptation comes dressed as “just a thought.”

🌸 The Consequences of Sin

Romans 6:23 puts it simply: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Adam and Eve didn’t drop dead when they ate the fruit. They were still alive, still breathing, still walking. But something inside them died that day. Spiritual death crept in. The intimacy they once shared with God was severed. And that’s what sin does. It may not always show on the outside immediately, but inside, it erodes life.

Sin replaces peace with guilt.

It replaces joy with fear.

It replaces closeness with distance.

And if we’re honest, many of us know this feeling too well. You can be smiling, achieving, even “living” and yet feel empty inside. That’s what life apart from God looks like.

🌸 Redemption in the Midst of the Fall

But oh, here’s the part I love the most. Even in the middle of the fall, God was already weaving redemption. In Genesis 3:15, He promised that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the serpent.

Pause and think about that: the same vessel through which sin came would be the same vessel God chose to use for salvation.

No Eve, no Mary.

No Mary, no Jesus.

No Jesus, no cross.

No cross, no salvation.

Even in her weakness, God was writing a greater story. That means no matter how far we’ve gone, no matter how heavy the shame we carry, God still has a plan. His love never leaves us without a way back.

And notice this: after Adam and Eve sinned, it wasn’t them looking for God. It was God walking in the garden, saying, “Where are you?” They were hiding. They were covering themselves with fig leaves. But He came looking for them anyway.

That’s what love does. Sin makes us run from God, but love makes God run after us.

🌸 A Call for Us Today

And maybe that’s where you find yourself today — hiding, covering, pretending to be fine on the outside but empty on the inside. If so, hear this: God is still calling. Where are you?

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts I think toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

God is saying, I have a plan for you. But that plan comes alive when we repent. Repentance isn’t just saying sorry; it’s turning back. It’s leaving the hiding place and stepping into His embrace.

So don’t keep running. Don’t keep hiding. Today, answer His call.
