Prompt - Write a letter to God, expressing your heart honestly. Don’t worry about perfection, just pour it out.

I let out a heavy sigh before I started writing this. Sometimes, because of the kind of heart You gave me, I want to ask: How are You?

But then I remember, You are God. You are I Am.

There are too many things I want to say to You, far too many. Some words can’t hold it, tears can’t communicate it, songs can’t carry it. But tonight, I want to say two words: thank You.

Or if there’s a word deeper than that which truly captures gratitude, that is what I mean.

Thank You for the good.

Thank You for the bad. I don’t say this because it’s the “proper” thing to do, but because I’ve realized that it could have been worse. And no matter how bad it was—or how bad it could have gotten—you carried me. You taught me.

Thank You for the gift of salvation. For the gift of Your Son. Who am I, that You are mindful of me? Who is Anita Adaeze, that You love me this much?

Thank You for every single thing You’ve done for me, for my friends, for my family, even the ones I can’t recall. Thank You for what You’re doing now, and for what is still to come.

Thank You for being my Shepherd, for making sure I did not want.

For making me lie down in green pastures.

Thank You for leading me beside still waters and for restoring my soul.

For leading me in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.

Thank You because even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I feared no evil, for You are with me.

Your rod and Your staff, are comforting me.

Thank You for preparing a table before me in the presence of my enemies and for anointing my head with oil; that my cup is running over.

Thank You because surely goodness and mercy are following me all the days of my life.

And thank You because I am dwelling in Your house forever.
