Hi everyone!
Today I will talk to u about.. Caffè shakerato I always thought it was famous in all the world, instead yrs ago I discovered a lot of people have no idea about what it is.
I understood this thanks to an Aussie friend, we met in Bologna to have a coffee he asked me where we can have a really good espresso together, and my brain freezes for a while.
I spent times thinking where to have the best espresso of his life, because how u know Italians are always unhappy of the caffè, I wrote about this time ago u can read more about coffee here:
Then luckily my brain decided to work and I realised he is Aussie so for him would be the best coffee anyway😬😏, it would be worst going there with another Italian.
We went at Caffè Terzi in Bologna
For me the best coffee is at Caffè Sant’Eustachio in Rome.
When we was talking in front of an espresso and a cappuccino (yes he ordered Cappuccino after the 11am🤯😝), there was this table next to us who ordered two caffè shakerato, my friend was surprised because he thought they ordered a cocktail at 15pm? (Things like that in part of Italy are completely normal, like if u go in Veneto people drinks Spritz at 9am)
So I explained inside there were only: coffee, ice and sugar.
This was the first moment I realised it was a classic only in Italy, and that I thought late that I might order it since it was one of the hottest days of that summer.
Now I hope u can find in the rest of Europe and of the world easily.
Caffè Shekerato it’s a better version of cold coffee, it’s the best thing u can drink during an hot day, I live in Italy in Emilia Romagna and unluckily due to climate change the heat reaches the 35 degrees (when we are lucky) until 40 degrees, and we have from the 40 until the 70% of humidity.
So there is nothing better than having a caffè shakerato in ur hands in this period, it’s a real comfort drink and it make u think about the holidays.
How is born the caffè shakerato?
Some say it originated immediately after World War II, in the 1950s, while others say it dates back to the more recent 1990s.
What's certain is that it began with bartenders' desire to experiment with new uses for the shaker, so everyone invented a cocktail or tried to figure out how to make the most of it.
So, no one knows who the genius was who first tried to put coffee in a shaker, the bartender probably thought it was nothing special.
Instead, he/she created a drink that has become popular throughout Italy, a cold coffee with a soft foam and I recommend u try it whether you're here on vacation or at home.
How to make it!
Ingredients
A cup of espresso for each person
1 tsp of sugar for each espresso
Ice a lot of ice
A shaker
( I bought the cup it in Fuerteventura, I buy an espresso cup almost every time I travel)
Like all Italian recipes, quality is key, so you need a top-quality coffee and your favorite blend. I've never tried making this with Americano; I've always used espresso, but you can try that too and let me know if it turns out well.
Now put all the ingredients inside the shaker close it well, start shaking vigorously like if your life depends from it, for several minutes.
How many? I honestly don't know, it's like a sixth sense when you start to feel the ice shrinking and you hear a muffled sound; that sound indicates that foam is forming.
And finally is ready after few minutes, now u can pour it into glasses.
If u want an elegant presentation, you can use martini glasses.
I always use classic glasses, remember to open the shaker to collect all the foam and remaining ice pieces.
(All my pics are 100% homemade from me, so there aren’t fancy shot)
Hope u will give to it a try because it so DELICIOUS!! 😍🤤
Have u ever drank a caffè shakerato?
If u liked it don’t forget to press on ❤️ and feel free to share it with everyone.
