Introduction
Asalamualaikum! I am Aymen, 21 year old Pakistani, Psychology student who is currently in her third year at college. I am also a Muslim! Other than the basics, I absolutely love reading books and comics (usually webtoons and manhwas). I also like writing and watching anime and kdrama along with a sprinkle of F1!
How would you define your blog/brand?
Now that I think about it, there’s a lot going on in my blog.
First, the posts are divided into 2 - Record Room and Scattered Page. Record Room has posts with topics I usually think a lot of about before forming it into something before writing it. Scattered Page is the complete opposite. It’s messy and probably not that thought of; more like a fleeting idea which has been written down.
As for my notes, they’re about everything and anything, although I do have this thing called Unfiltered Files where I post things without the social filter.
I write for people who relate and who understand that life isn’t black and white and that it is the grey area where everyone stands. And I hope that my writing can in some way comfort someone and make them feel a little bit less alone in this huge world.
Why did you start writing?
I started writing nearly 8 years ago and the way it happened is slightly weird (in a way). For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved telling stories and I’ve been told that I have a way to just add drama to it in a fun way. I’ve always loved telling stories (even the smallest meaningless ones) and I love telling them in a way where I get to see my family smile whenever they hear whatever nonsense I’m spewing at that moment.
So with that in mind, when mini 11 year old me finally started reading and continued to do so for the next 3 years; she had an idea, why not start writing.
Did it work the first time?
Absolutely not. But I did start it. There was no meaning, no heartfelt push, no one to prove. Just this young girl who wanted to create fun stories.
What/Who makes you feel empowered and inspired?
Probably my best friend. She’s just that one person who I struggle to describe in a couple words. She’s someone who stayed by my side even after seeing the worst sides of me and I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Lock in.
I don’t care how hard those subjects are, you have to study really hard, oh and make handwritten notes. That’s what actually helped you study.
Oh, and drop chemistry. That thing won’t make sense (salute to everyone who loves it and has decided to study it). And I know how hard Sciences are, I get it. And you’re going to hate it even after 6 years so might as well work really hard in those 3 years and get done with it.
And don’t worry about trying to fit in. Only a few people were meant to understand you.
How do you see your blog evolving, and what are your dreams?
Before starting, I was honestly scared because I knew that the numbers would get to me and I’d lose motivation and myself. And they did.
It became hard, it was quite and honestly off. I didn’t want to open the app or do anything, but I did because I sort of made a promise to myself and I planned to stick with it.
Now, I’m here with 34 subscribers in a couple months. Yes, maybe its not a lot to many, but for me its a lot because I wasn’t expecting it. As someone who’s secretive and doesn’t like oversharing especially online, having these many people here even after that. It brings a smile to my face. I’ll just do what I’m doing and seeing where this blog goes from there.
As for my dream…I wanted to be an author and technically someone who can write stories and come up with crazy ideas even if I can’t execute them.
Do you have any advice on how to stop caring what others think?
Recently, my teacher told me this; no matter what you do, people will always have something to say. So might as well do what you want, pretend that you’re adapting to their rhythm and then quietly follow your own.
What’s the meaningful comment or message you’ve received from a reader and why did it stand out to you?
This was the one question that really stuck and made me look through every comment/message I had received and I finally found it.
“Okay. I have my phone. I have your article. I have pierogi ( polish dish). I feel complete now.”
When I read it, this smile just formed and wouldn’t drop because what do you mean???
As for why did it stand… I mean if someone came up to you and said that your writing completes me, I would never stop talking about it.
Do you any advice or tips for younger people who want to become writers/bloggers?
Just go for it. Don’t overthink it and honestly just go in head first. Doesn’t matter how much prepare because in the end something unexpected will hit and then you will have to sort of figure it out. You will make mistakes and then you will learn.
So just do it. Because I mean…you won’t learn how to ride a bike if you keep studying about it.
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned recently?
Learn to control your mind. Because once you are able to control it and figure out how to run it in a rhythm you want it to enjoy. Then that’s when you’ll be disciplined enough to do what you want.
Bonus Question:
Write a poem or short post that summarises what ‘Sunshine’ means to you.
Sunshine
It could be a person or a place.
A day or a specific time.
It could be a feeling or a colour and honestly…it all comes down to how you want to see it.
For me?
Sunshine is a mixture of everything.
It could be the feeling of joy when I’m sitting at a cafe having lunch with my favourite person. It could be the sky when I wake up in the morning for Fajr. It could be the best day of my life or even a couple minutes when I’m joking around or telling a story or just clutching my stomach because of laughing too hard with my family.
Sunshine can be that warm, fuzzy feeling inside you that makes you feel safe, welcomed, warm and completely comfortable like you’re at home…even when you’re not.
(This is completely unedited so please ignore any mistakes!)
I would love to nominate:
Espresso yourself (my substack bestie!)
Heather (coolest indie author out there)
