NPS Building New Employee Housing At 'Acadia'

This is good news. Acadia has needed more adequate/acceptable (i.e., not in old buildings) for employee housing for quite a few years.

That they have started building 28 new bedrooms in 2025 is IRONIC.

2025 was the year that NPS lost a LOT of employees due to RIF, layoffs, voluntary buyouts, early retirement, & folks leaving in frustration.

The exact numbers are hard to come by, but have heard that the Park Ranger force has been reduced by 20% to 40%.

Yes, this new housing will allow those still around to be re-accommodated if they so wish.

Prime location. Close both to Bar Harbor, Park HQ and the Park. So, that will be appreciated.

That this had to be paid for with donations (from the public) is both good & sad.

The NPS should have the budget & funds for adequate employee housing.

Challenging time for the NPS — & it could get worse!

I just read that there is a Congressional bill to effectively DEFUND the NPS!

Also a motion to force the NPS to sell some of the Park land.

Not good. But, let’s celebrate & rejoice in this good, welcome news from Acadia.
