Acadia Is Doing Remarkably Well (So Far) During The 2025 Government Shutdown -- Compared To Some Other National Parks.

I keep on saying, “so far, so good”. It could have been so, so much WORSE. But we shouldn’t get too complacent. Things could change quickly, especially IF the shutdown drags on & on.

So far, Acadia has not needed to ask for money from the State (i.e., Maine) or from any of the ‘Friends’ organizations. That said, the State & ‘Friends’ are helping in other ways, e.g., the State runs the ‘Acadia Gateway Center’, which has now become the default, de facto main Visitor Center.

Compared to some of the other National Parks, Acadia is SMALL. It is the 15th SMALLEST of the 63 National Parks. {Or to state it the other way around, 49th largest of the 63.} This, PLUS the crowd that we currently have for the Fall Foliage, means that not much of the Park is isolated — & away from the crowds. So the chances of folks trying to damage land or property is minimized.

So that is where we are now.

Fingers crossed.

Things can & will change. Talk that the Shutdown will end by this time next week. We can only hope.
