Wildfire Solutions for Mediterranean

In 2023, our Abundance Academy won the Brussels AIOTI hackathon with a Greek Wildfire Concept and a Dutch, Brazilian, Austrian, Greek team. Edible landscapes that hold more water in soil and vegetation, renewable energy other than big batteries and windmills in the forests, solar skins of buildings that produce enough for their own consumption, and awareness via apps.

I love these systems projects. They keep me sharp and I can contribute to the life of my grandchildren. Climate adaptation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the feedback loops and predictions. Internet of Things (IOT) for the connections between satellites and multisensors.

Fast response decision making systems to make the life of firefighters a bit easier. All firefighters are logistically operating under time pressure. They need to know fire behavior. They need to… know… everything complex and see through like an eagle.

What is this top-picture? It’s an Augmented Reality (AR) app by a Belgian maker used in Antwerp harbors and for water awareness. Why would Pokémon GO and geocaching riddles only be for fun for hikers?

Why not do a little edutainment???

The rest of this article is a perhaps surprising combination of ethics, technology and Mediterranean landscapes and fire dances:

Greece was present here, just like many other environmental changemakers. Dycle in Berlin, a diaper, soil, food, parent community, city project. Ayumi Matsuzaka, an inspiring friend, does this project since 2013, teaches Japanese students, and was with me in Greece in 2017, when we plotted out one tree with 21 uses. Japanese style.

Ad de Raay - a Dutch innovator - made the washing machines on sonic waves and UV light instead of water to prevent microplastics in rivers. Bonaire and St. Maarten were present. Island solutions. Indonesia, where Mike and I taught later how islands can build a regenerative economy at Green School Bali. The famous school where we met Alexandra Cousteau (granddaughter of Jacques and founder of Oceans 2050), many bamboo builders, rive without water fields, and American impact investors. Even at some point Richard Branson and Ban Ki Moon.

Sooooo many great projects! Proud of all my hyper-active colleagues…
