No amount of telling someone to “just do it” is ever going to result in them just doing it.

You might have all the skills, knowledge and experience to do your thing. Others around you might see it clearly, but for some reason you are still holding back and getting frustrated with yourself because you know you know your stuff. So why can’t I just do it?

The simple answer is that if your body and mind are saying no, because of reasons in your past or silent views and opinions you don’t even hear anymore but your body is still holding onto, then no amount of being told, “You’re amazing, just do it,” will make you just do it. The bodies need for self preservation is the strongest force.

We don’t always know or see these blocks, but somehow we do feel them, the little words and stories running around our heads …..

I’m not good enough. Who do I think I am when there are others who have been doing this longer than me? I’m too old. These are not excuses. They are valid questions your mind and body are circling around in order to protect you, and equally, they hold you back.

One thing I can 100% guarantee you is that there are less talented people out there making a success out of inauthenticity and less skill than you. They don’t have the same fears holding them in.

Isn’t it funny how this actually shifts? When we are younger, well, some of us, we can be quite easily influenced. “Have you tried this thing?” “No.” “Well, just do it.” “Okay.” And we just do it. Fearless, not yet having lived a life of twists and turns, with lessons and words that have made us cautious, or made us understand hurt or fear.

Things happen in our lives. Labels we have been given by others, like “Little Abi,” seep into our bodies. Our body is connected to our mind and our thoughts, and their goal is self-protection. So fear and limiting beliefs kick in.

It might be things we have witnessed in other people’s journeys. Family, friends, people we admire. For one reason or another, their pain and experience is something we emotionally absorb, and the body then goes, well, look what happened to them. I am going to hold you back in response so that doesn’t happen to you.

Our body’s incredible natural self-preservation, which is a beautiful thing, can also hold us back.

Feel the fear and do it anyway. Yes. But what if that fear is crippling?

Yes, feel the fear and do it anyway, but also allow the body and mind to unwrap the fears that are holding you back so they can be acknowledged and understood. Then the fear becomes less of a monster.

So the saying is real: feel the fear, but let’s really feel it so we can understand it and work with it, move with it, and use it as fuel to propel us forward. And sometimes we need someone else to help us unpack our stuff, because we can’t always see the stories we are living inside and what fears we are holding.

Unpack it. Look at it. Feel it. Understand it. Turn it into fuel, burn it up, and let it light your way forward.

Imagine the possibilities if you did use that fuel and do your thing!

(The type of fuel is equally personal, that might be for another conversation, we cant put logs in a car and expect it to be the fule to get it to go!)

What’s your thing that you really want to do, but you have not yet used your fear as fuel?
