Healing isn't a finish line. It's the key to the next chapter.

There is something fascinating about how healing is sold to us, like its a one time job and voila’ we arrive, healed!

A point when we think we have done enough of the work, had enough conversations, therapy, read enough books, gained enough wisdom, listened to all of the podcasts and finally reached a place where there is nothing left to unpack. I am fixed! hurray!

Like healing has a finish line and certification.

As though understanding ourselves is a final destination we reach part way through our life journey. Yet real life has a way of proving otherwise. every time with every human who has ever lived.

Just as one chapter begins to make sense, something else pops up. A different challenge, relationship. A different loss, yet another plot twist.

Not because we have gone backwards. Because life keeps moving doing its life thing.

Healing is never really about reaching a point where nothing hurts anymore. Nor is it about endlessly revisiting old pain and spending a lifetime circling around the same wounds.

Perhaps it is simply a process of evolving. Understanding ourselves and the world that circles us personally a little better or in some situations a whole lot more.

Understanding what belongs in the next chapter and what can finally be left behind.

Not so we become immune to hurt, disappointment, rejection or loss, but so we carry them differently, forgive more gracefully and move forward with more compassion and strength.

The interesting thing about healing is that every time life expands, so does our capacity to understand something we couldn’t see before. The same experience can mean one thing at twenty and something entirely different at forty and something different again at fifty.

The experience hasn’t changed. We have.

Which is why healing is not a one-time job. There will be other chapters, lessons, opportunities to unpack, understand and let go.

Because we are alive!

Healing is not arriving. Healing is the key to unlocking the next door and giving you the confidence to open it and step through.

With love Abigail x
