What I believe: Implemented average strategies > non-implemented great strategies
My note: A business that executes average ideas quickly and repeatedly will make more money than one that executes perfect ideas once in a while.
I was in a conversation with a fashion designer who thought I'd have a perfect marketing plan for him, so I asked:
“How often do customers get their clothes by the time you promised to deliver?”
Hmmm.
“Does it happen that people return their clothes for adjustments after you've delivered them?
Erm…Yes…Not everytime though.
“You have to figure those out first”
How I'd implement this:
I'd list out the things I already know work in my industry, look at the ones I can start doing immediately that I'm not and make them part of my business.
Ex: For a product business: Clothing brand (sells shirts, Abayas, Jilbaabs)
I'd list out all the common things I know already that the good clothing brands do.
All the good brands:
Have nice product images
Post daily
Deliver on time
Have nice packages
Have automated WhatsApp messages that tell potential customers all of their offers at once without them having to ask individually.
Have nice WhatsApp catalogues
Tells new people about their products daily
Then make it my next goal to implement all of it. Starting with the ones I can implement the quickest.
Result: A good clothing brand that posts daily, with nice product images and a nice WhatsApp catalogue, replies fast, delivers faster, has nice packaging and makes more money.
My extra note: When you start trying to implement just the basic things, you find out that they're actually very hard. But that's exactly the point. The reason other businesses are average is because they can not survive the “extra effort” it takes. The reason the best businesses are where they're is because they can do the basic and boring hard work. You'll move faster when you realise no strategy will save you from the pain of implementation.
Do you know someone this will be useful for? Please share. The goal is to create the most valuable business-focused Substack and I'll only be able to when you implement and share with other people who will.
