Following along with the Runic Calendar, the Rune of the moment is Hagalaz (ᚺ) until November 13th. It means Hail.
Hail is disruptive and transformative, but it also leads to rebirth. For me, it’s showing up as disruption at home, my kid has decided to set off on their own and move out. It’s bringing sudden change, and it’s impossible for me to control, just like Hagalaz itself. I also can’t help but be reminded of the destruction of the hurricane in Jamaica.
Hagalaz represents the raw, destructive forces of nature that humans cannot harness. Just as hail can flatten a field yet melt into water that nourishes new growth, this Rune reminds us that destruction often precedes transformation and calls on us to have faith in dark times.
For me personally, and for all of us collectively, this is a time of upheaval, awakening, and radical change. The storm may shake what we thought was secure, but only the rigid structures will break. What can bend and be flexible will survive and grow stronger.
Hagalaz calls us to:
• Seek shelter and strengthen our boundaries
• Reflect on past patterns and inner conflicts
• Let go of what no longer works
• Trust that the storm will pass
As the ice melts, collaboration, renewal, and new growth follow. It’s reminding me that life is change, we can’t cling to joy, nor should we fear loss. Faith and mindfulness are the anchors that carry us through these times of chaos.
So as Hagalaz moves through, I’m taking heart that this is not destruction for its own sake. It’s nature, clearing space for what’s next. ❤️
