Liv whirled around, grabbed the edge of Adam’s gurney, and flipped it on its side, tumbling over it with him. His sheet was yanked off and he hit the polished concrete floor naked with a slap. With a bone-jarring explosion, the missile hit the floor where Adam had been lying moments before. The steel gurney warped and slammed into Adam and Liv, yet shielded them from the blast. Gabe had found cover behind a bank of metal cabinets. Adam stopped rolling flat on top of Liv, nose to nose.

She looked up into his bewildered face, his naked body hot on hers. Liv squirmed out from under him. “Get off me!” she yelled. “Hey,” Adam protested, covering his unremarkable junk with his hands. “I was just obeying the laws of nature.” Liv scowled and peered around the edge of the damaged gurney. Liv could practically hear his heartbeat pounding with the surge of adrenaline from being chased in such a vulnerable state.
